MEMORIAL SERVICE - "Geese"

I am sad to say that another player has passed away. Mike "Geese" Gerace died on Sunday morning from lung & liver cancer. His mother said they only knew about it for a few months.

Mike & his mother moved to Florida a few years ago so I had not been in touch with him often. When my husband, Bobby passed away; Geese checked up on me every couple of days and then later every week. Even when he was on the road playing somewhere, he always made a point to check on me in case I needed anything. He was a good friend to those who were his friends.

There will be a memorial service in a month or so when Mrs. Gerace returns to Maryland.

Geese and I grew up together when we were kids, when he came out to California. Some of my fondest memories are when we used to go to the racetrack, hustle pool, and laugh endlessly throughout our travels together. I can see him now with his fisherman's cap on, the brim pulled back. Every time he would shoot, he'd would acknowledge me sitting on the rail by pulling back the brim, and he would have that real mean look, and I could not help but laugh.

I will always remember the good times that we had together, and hopefully, his mother will find peace in that he's not suffering anymore. He'll be missed.

Last time I saw geese play was in memphis about 20 years ago.Keith and Louie were matched up in Memphis, and so were the goose and the geese matched up as well, tables side by side.

I had a call a couple of days ago from a friend who told me of his passing.
I was told he was at grady's tournament in Naples last year, but I did have the pleasure of visiting with him.
God bless, you and your family..

I'm glad you mentioned Goose and Geese matching up Blud. A few of us were talking the other day, after hearing of Mike's illness and wondered if Geese and Goose had ever played. We were wondering who would have won.

May God be with Mike's family.....................$Bill

Thank you

Thanks Guys.

Sorry for the late reply. I have recently been taking care of business from my own mother's passing 2 weeks ago. I am doing a lot of big sistering and spending about half my time in Rockville, neglecting my kids etc..

I notice that things get lost on here very easily.

Mike's mother is trying to sell all of her things in order to move back to Maryland. I will be at his memorial service whenever that happens. All Star Billiards (Frederick, MD) is talking about having a tournament in his name. If & when that happens, I will post the info. here.

Thanks again,

So sorry for your loss Phyllis. Hope to meet you at All Star! That is a nice gesture on LN's part to have a Geese memorial tournament.

Will the tourney be a fund raiser for Geese's mom? If so, I am in!

Please do keep us posted.

Thank you. I am sort of on autopilot right now.

Larry & Peggy N. are good people and any proceeds from tournament will go to Geese's mother (I think she needs some help that way). Larry may go to Fla. and help to drive her north also. I offered to help as well. It may be a good diversion for me to do that. She is a very nice lady who put up with a lot from her son. She used to worry about him a lot when he was on the road playing but she sort of got used to it over the years.

Phyllis

PS, You will no doubt see me there. I am there every night.

Yes it will. See you there. I may even get to play in this one. ;)

Memorial service

I have just been informed that there will be a memorial service for Mike "Geese" Gerace this coming Monday, June 21st (7:30 pm) at St. Paul's Church in Damascus, Maryland.

I know this is short notice and since Mrs. Gerace just got back to Maryland, I am not sure what the rush is.
