Safety Ideas

the cahones to have that much faith in your cue ball control when only the 8&9 are left...I pray for that.

Well, worse case scenario, you've left your opponent with a table-length cut on the 8, so it's not a complete sell-out... but yes, I dream of that....

I am a fan of Nick Varners play in general. Like his patience, demeanor, stroke, tenacity and ability to chew gum at level few living beings can comprehend. But I dont really recall him playing safety as a main gadget in his game. I like pure offense as a means of survival in the Box.

At what point do you guys say.... "screw this, I'm locking this joker up!"?

For me, I think it depends on where we are in the set/game and how I think they will shoot out of the safety Imma lay on them. but if my best shot is a 30% ball...... get ready to be close and snuggly to something, or in a place that will make the valley of death seem like a vacation spot.

Sometimes it's a hard call to make.

There is a lot to be said for being sure your opponent has to go rail firs every shot for a few games though.

The psychological component of shutting a man down is hard to measure, but I do think it is often more beneficial than just winning the game by running out.
