The typical move is 1/2 ball soft cut to leave the two balls on opposite long rails about midway between pockets.

why play safe ?
just cut it in !!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously i like patrick's answer also i might hit it with follow so the cue ball stays down there (hi karate like dany di would say )
and the 9 ball goes from where it is to the side rail and down towards the opposite end rail
patrick's shot is easier but can leave a makeable bank
my shot is harder and you can leave a makeable bank but there is distance from cue ball to object ball and object ball to pocket making it a tougher bank

I tend to agree.

If the safe is as difficult as the shot, I'm taking the shot...

Failing that I play Patrick's shot. It's a "stock shot", but pretty easy to get wrong from that distance too...
