Sailor cue question

Did all Frank’s cues have the flared butt? Did any early cues not have it? I acquired one without and am trying to figure if it is original or altered. I do remember seeing some over the years having been altered due to them cracking or chipping.

I don't think so, there was a period of time it helped him sell more. But did he stop? I don't know, I'd reach out of FB to Jeff Carter from WI.
 
I know at the time most of my friends in town were buying them, they resembled a bar cue. You had to look close to see the joint.
 
I never saw a Sailor cue without a flaired butt cap, in addition, many had the name Sailor stamped on the forearm- if a cue had neither identifier then I would highly doubt the authenticity unless you could match it directly against a known Sailor cue. In any case, resale as a Sailor cue would be near impossible, IMO, without the flaired butt cap- that simply defined Sailor cues and I know of no collector who would seek one out that did not have that signature butt cap.
 
You may be right, it's been a lot of years for me, but I lived in Racine and went to his place to look at cues, also a lot of my friends had his cues, and all the ones they had, and the ones I looked at in the rack on the wall looked like a bar cue, but maybe there was a flare, I am getting old.
Then again maybe he made more expensive cues as all the ones my friends had were about $70 at the time.
I ended up not getting one as one problem with them was when you went to the bathroom, a lot of times when coming back out someone was playing with your cue. I remember some of them complaining about that.

The one I acquired has the stamp on the shaft near the joint as well as stamp between the points. Just no flare.

You have the stamp so you have a Sailor - that simple - no need to worry about a butt cap if the cue is stamped in both places - good to go👍
 
When he got older he may have just used a stamp - possible - I wonder if he was just stamping cues and selling them at that point in his life - one never knows.
