Saluc Aramith Prestige Caroms Set

I saw somewhere 150euros
I know the pro cup carom is generally 150 dollars, hoping this isnt gonna be a much different price over a few dots on a red ball no matter how desirable they may be

Unless they are made from that new duramith resin,

Here is Saluc's last response to me as of early November.

Hi Steve,

These new Super Aramith Pro-Cup Prestige (as attached) will be available through Iwan Simonis Inc as soon as January 2016.

Does it fit with your timing ?

Best regards

Yves

Here is my letter regarding pricing of the new Prestige set as of a few minutes ago.

Hi Yves,

Many of us in the states are interested in purchasing the new Prestige carom set. Please tell us the MSRP pricing.
Here is the posting on AZ Billiards for your perusal:http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=413573

Response By Saluc

Dear Steve,

The MSRP of the PRO-CUP set (with solid red) is $203, while the new Prestige set is at $232.43

Best regards

Yves

At those prices ill just wait for kozoom to restock this set, currently appears a 6 week wait,
And looking at the other carom ball setI prices there, im buying all future sets from kozoom

They are still cheaper WITH shipping to the states than anywhere else ive seen, including anywhere in the states

Wonderful beneath_the_sur. I'm glad you shared that with us. For those that may be iinterested I usually receive my Aramith balls from USBA or Kozoom.

Thanks,

Has anyone had an older set of these balls wear out on the spots? My local pool hall has a set and the balls would occasionally wobble when they came to rest.

The owner of the room mentioned it seemed to happen when they rested on a spot and sure enough the spots have all whitened a bit. If you set a ball right on a spot, you can nudge the ball and will rock in place.

Any guesses on how long these balls are supposed to last?

I love Saluc so don't take this post the wrong way. They make the only pool and carom balls I like to use.

What is the difference?

https://store.kozoom.com/uk/carom_billiards/billiard-accessories/l/aramith.html?p=2

So at the top of the Aramith line they have the following offerings:

1) Super Aramith Pro Cup Prestige: dots on all three balls (107 Euros)

2) Super Aramith Pro Cup ; dot on the white and yellow only (93 Euros)

3) Super Aramith Tournament: no dots on any of the three balls, which are white, yellow, and red. (67 Euro)

4) Super Aramith Deluxe: old school with 2 whites and a red, with a red dot on one of the whites (63 Euro)

5) Super Aramith Traditional: really old school with 2 whites, on with a black dot (what we called the black ball in the old days) and a red. (60 Euro).

So here is my question, Does playability vary between the different set of balls or is it simply cosmetic (not downplaying the value of cosmetics)?

And if there ARE differences in playability are they pronounced enough that a player of modest ability would notice at all?

I have to say, that as someone who cut his billiard teeth in the mid-80s with the really old school type balls, and came back after a 25 year hiatus to find they now had the red.yellow/white, with dots, there is a certain nostalgic appeal to playing with old-school type balls. But only if that didn't involve a noticeable (to me and players of my limited ability) difference in performance.

The fact that they are almost 50% cheaper would be a bonus. But only if they are comparable in performance and durability with the others. I'd like to think that the "Super Aramith" label means that they utilize the same materials, manufacturing process, and quality controls - the Aramith site seems to imply that - but I don't know if that is a correct surmise.

I currently own the pro cup and tournament set, I like the non dotted balls better, for looks
I also do plan on getting a deluxe and traditional set, like you I would like to believe since all have the super aramith on them they would be all made from the same quality materials

I haven't noticed a difference so far, but after bud greens post, i thought i seen a little wiggle as they come to a stop, on my non dotted balls,
could just be my eyes playing tricks on me,

HOPEFULLY the prices are set by desirability and demand, for the cosmetics, and not the material grade/ performance of them

Just a follow-up on this. I sent this a query to Aramith:

Do all of the carom balls in the "Super Aramith" line share the same
materials, manufacturing process, and quality controls?

In other words, other than the spots on 2 or all three balls, is there a
playability or durability difference between the Super Aramith balls that
are designated Pro Cup and the Super Aramith balls that do not have the Pro
Cup designation, such as the Tournament or Traditional?

Thanks for your response.

and I got this reply:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your e.mail received during our closing for the Holiday Season.

Yes, all the Carom Super Aramith line shares the same materials, manufacturing process and qulity controls.
No, there is no difference in playability or durability between the Super Aramith balls.

Hoping this answers your request,

Best regards.

ARAMITH - BELGIUM

That is good to know, since what counts the most is playability, since our matched down at the senior center are not likely to be televised anytime soon. LOL

So now I am thinking about getting a real "old school" set to go with our new updated "old school" table,.

Two sets that use a Dark Red ball

There is a little Danger in the Dark ball set. There are two sets that use the dark red ball. The one to avoid is the the Aramith premier set which is 2 and 3/8 of an inch big instead of 61.5mm. The Premier are smaller balls meant for older Carom Tables with the lower rail profile. The one to get is the "Super Aramith Traditional" ball set which is 61.5mm.

In the past I made the mistake of buying the smaller Premier ball set and got Burned. The Premier box is easier to spot since it graphically differs from all the other sets.

Yeah I almost got bit by that. I saw the premier set for a decent price on Amazon and almost got it, until I realized it was NOT the same set I had been looking at on kozoom. I'm planning on going to Bordeaux in November for the Worlds so maybe I will just wait until then and get them there at kozoom's vendor exhibit.
