Samsara Jump tip cut down?

Here is the situation. I replaced a phenolic tip on a jump cue with a Samsara tip.
The guy likes the tip. The only issue is that it does not see to respond and get up in the air well as the phenolic tip.
I personally think that is part of the trade off with you go away from a phenolic to an all leather tip regardless how hard it is.
I however still would like to help him out and was thinking that if I cut it down from 9 layers to maybe 4 layers that it could help.

Has anyone else done this, did it help or does that make sense?

Has anyone every cut a tip in half and had better results jumping with it?
If it makes a difference, this is on a Predator Air Jump cue.

I have one of those tips, that is getting thin. Doesn't jump as easy as phenolic, can't do those really short jumps with it. Longer jumps, say a foot between balls I actually prefer it. That may be differences in cues though.

the samsara isn't as hard as phenolic, so you do lose a tiny bit of hop with it, but IMO it's very small and really shouldn't be a big issue. Unless you are doing trick shot type jumps or something. Cutting down the tip won't change anything, the samsara's are the same whether they're tall or short. If you are looking for an alternative to phenolic, try the white diamond. It is harder than the samsara, but holds chalk much better than phenolic and has a slightly softer sound too. But I've found that jumping with the samsara really should be quite easy.
