After just watching a PBS program about the making of these amazing weapons I got to thinking if any custom cue maker had ever built a cue with the Samurai sword as inspiration for the design.

Chris,

Thanks for posting this picture. I own both of the Samurai Mottey cues. One is a box cue (this one), and the other one has points. The pointed cue is also on Paul Mottey`s website. I will have both of them with me at the ICCS show next week in Houston.

I saw the ad for that episode of Nova, but I couldn't find it when it was supposed to be on. I'll have to catch it sometime.

Thanks for posting the pics guys.
The show was amazing, the craftsmanship and dedication are quite remarkable. The human spirit truly is an incredible force.

if i were to do a "samurai sword" motiff, i would pay particular attention to the ringwork above the grip.

the samurai sword's hilt, as in everything japanese, was given careful consideration with elaborate/ornate detailing. in fact sword hilts are quite collectable for those who are into japonisme.

so MY cue version of a samurai sword would have a thick(maybe 1" or +), ornate ring design that would incorporate something cue-like,,,maybe a josey style fleur de lais with some japanese design - above the grip,,,,,,,no points(gaboon or african blackwood in the nose and butt),,,,,,,stack wrap(and i HATE stake wraps but they would be appropos in this case),,,,,,,and an inlay design that,,,,,hmmmmm, maybe i should approach richard black with with my idea.

i can see richard, schick, and maybe josey in executing such a design.
