Sand Papper And Ivory Ferrul

Ok so here is my question back in July i was home on R&R but before then i have ordered the Willards tipping machine. While i was home i learned to re-place tips very well with no issues whats so ever. But when i was taking down the tip to the ferrul i noticed that i can only go so far down if i went on to trim any more tip it would of went into the ferrul.

So my issues is should i finsh taking the rest of the tip down flush with the ferrul with sand papper ? Even tho i have ivory ferruls ? Would that mess up the ferrul or is there a sand papper fine enough to still work the tip and not mess up the ivory ferrul ?

Sand the ferrule and you take material off. Every time.
Can't tell you how many cues I've seen with ferrules that have a taper at the tip end of them.
Without a lathe, I would suggest you get a porper little shaver, or something similar that will allow you to cut the tip down without touching the ferrule. Then use some very fine sandpaper to clean/burnish.

...or if you don't have a $10K lathe...use an exacto knife or razor blade to trim of the excess flush with the ferrule.
