I have decided to purchase a couple sets of sanding mandrels, however im not for sure what diameter i should get for both sets. Also does anyone know someone that will machine them?

Pick the size you like and then subtract 5-10 thou for the finish difference. Depends on the finish you use. 835 and 840 are common. I like 838 and 845 for my own preferences.

I've started making some that are WAY cheaper than the market rate. Made to order diameters.

My website is almost online but I will be reaching out to interested parties soon.

I bought mine from Chris Hightower...works great talk to him he will steer you in the right direction.

Thanks for the plug. You can save yourself a lot of money by just buying one set. I do not use an undersized sanding set. I just cut the butt and shaft a little undersized and then sand a little more off after installing the joint and build the finish up to match it. I charge $350 for a one size set. I have a few sets in stock.

IF I could make just one suggestion to all cuemakers who are contemplating having carbide mandrels made it would be to go to //.842 // for the finished diameter . . .

There has been and will continue to be a concerted effort to standardize to this dimension . . . and knowing what I know about "things" on the horizon those who go to the //.842 // will be well served in the future . . .

Why would someone push for a standard size of .842" ?
I would like to see the standard go to .850" if there was ever going to be a standard.

Because the Chinese made a lot of stuff and being able to produce it at one size saves them money and companies like Predator can sell an aftermarket shaft that would fit the joint diameter of most cues and not have to offer custom sizes or be undermined by those that do. Perhaps they can convince the Germans to change from .838?

Too thin for my liking as well.
Whippy straight taper butts.
