Sbe cues

Greg....were you able to locate who has the cue now and how the heck did you ever track it down?
I wonder how folks accomplish that and the only approaches I can think of are social media, AZ and
word of mouth......it's a pretty big country and I'd imagine a cue could ultimately wind up anywhere.

Anyway, hope this cue remains in your sights and it ultimately winds up coming back to you.

Matt B.

Yes Matt, I got very lucky that it kept appearing at the ICCS show and was on display at the SBE. I unfortunately sold it back in 2007 when I 1st started having back issues. I sold my whole collection back then which included the Fanelli I'm trying to get back, a Capone that a buddy still has, Southwest, Mottey & a couple others.

I'd probable still be out of pool because my back is pretty bad again, but a buddy talked me into joining his team in league a couple years ago & I got back into it pretty heavily again.

At the time I sold my 2 Fanelli's I figured if I ever came back I'd have no issues getting Paul to make me more cues since we become friends. While I was gone, he unexpectedly passed as we all know. I was devastated and picked up the 2 I have now just because I didn't want to go without any of his cues, especially a butterfly. I also never expected one that was originally made for me and my specs to resurface.

Keep playing! It saves my back.

Phil, you’re a good example of why I’m here. I share your thoughts as well.

There are likely a number of reasons for the decline in participation here in the gallery forum. While I have no evidence to back it up with, I suspect the current economy is a major reason. Where we used to see 8-10 real big cues with fresh designs posted here each year, we now might see 2-4 cues. Unique design work is especially difficult and time consuming. Trust me; I know what went into the Gatsby. Then comes all the planning, programming and parts utilization management. There are cue makers who could write a book on what must be done prior to even turning a blank. Time is money. I believe that is one reason why the ICCS appears to be headed toward a biannual rather than yearly event. Collectors and makers alike are finding both time and money increasingly difficult to come by.

As you say, most cues being posted are done so for everyone’s enjoyment. Equally important, it highlights the makers. There are many posted cues that had the owner not gone to the trouble of sharing; many wouldn’t even know that a certain maker even existed (IMO). Without present and past posters like you, Ken Kerner, Will, JimmyRayK, Jamie, Bill Grassley, and Steve Piesner, I wouldn’t be collecting. Remember Steve, he rarely posts here anymore.

I’ve been debating with myself on whether to post up pics of some cues I’ve come by over the last few years. Most have been seen at one time or another, either shows or here, but I would imagine many members haven’t or wouldn’t remember. I think that it might be a good thing but I’m still thinking.

One last thought, I think we dropped the ball sort to speak when we let the AZBilliards COTY event fall into ruin. I wish I knew more about what it would take to again make that a successful endeavor here on AZ. On the surface at least, it seemed to rally members and gave us all a capsule look at some of the best cues, both classic and modern. Perhaps it will come back. I suspect that it will.

Paul
Thanks Paul,
I feel the same and would second your comments. I love cues. They can be huge intricate cues or Merry Widows with great wood. Two of my favorites have zero inlays, but great wood. I post my stuff for guys who simply like cues. I was taught if I could not say something nice, do not say it. I never critic a cue with something negative, not commenting itself makes a statement. I do however comment to individuals who seem to want to say something that should not be said.
Good rolls and thanks
Phil

The "good" side of me, which I think is more prevalent contrary to what some may think, feels responsible for what transpired with 2015 COTY but the "bad" also knows what it takes to put monkey wrenches in someone else's efforts... not much. The next time it is attempted I hope everyone will take he path given and enjoy the ride...

To the point of many not posting anymore, it's a lot harder to post pics on here verses Facebook especially from your cell phone which is basically what I'm always on either viewing here or Facebook. I can post pics on Facebook directly from my gallery of pictures. Here I have to send to photobucket, then get on my laptop and then copy and paste links from one page to this page. Then write the story behind the cue.

After all that work and story, either because people(and I'm not sure what the reason was) don't like me, the cue I posted or the cue maker, I had 1 response to a new cue thread I made a couple weeks ago. It's not worth the effort for 1 response.

Facebook works best at it's primary purpose of being an interactive platform for communication but it is weak when it comes to serving as a vehicle for retrieving information.

It is effective for quick daily posts, but those posts get buried quickly and few people search within a specific page or even the entire Facebook site. Facebook is not comparable to a website nor a forum.
