SBE + other Amateur events

I may be wrong, but to me all this sounds like a bunch of sour grapes from a bunch of beaters. 1000 players, must be doing something right no??? Also it's my belief once you play pool good enough ( and I am not talking ANYWHERE NEAR PRO LEVEL ) you play good enough to where ANYONE CAN PLAY GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN A SHORT SET ON A BAR BOX! . If you dont, then just stay home, watch you dvd's, take your CTE lessons or whatever, practice, pray, play, till your good enough to meet those standards - or just come play, have a good time and enjoy the experience, but just don't beech. If you choose to be a Nit and beech do us all a favor and just stay at your pool room - telling everyone how you would have robbed the tournament if gas wasn't at $2.00 a gallon, the tolls weren't $5.00, and the hotel room you were gonna split 5 ways wasn't $20.00. Thanks again. And no Cardiac this was not directed at you, just happened to pic your post to quote.

No offence taken!

Always going to be complainers. SBE is the BEST event I attend all year. Know my ability. Know I probably will NOT win the Open. If you are one of the 998 other players who think your going to win, get real!!!!! There can only be one of them. Better get ready to lose. However if you get into the top 64, $800 minimum is not hard to take.

Late Saturday evening, Shane Winters was gambling with some guy on a game I am not familiar with.

They had the CB and one OB and each had a pocket.

If you made the OB in your pocket you won. If you made the OB in any other pocket you lost.

It was really interesting in how you could put the OB in front of another pocket to try and force your opponent to make it in a pocket other than his own.

They were playing this for between $300 and $500 a ball.

Anyone know the name of this game?

not sure what the game is actually called but I know it is very popular in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Star,

2014 Sam Gilmer
2012 Lee Holt
2011 Bucky Souventhong
2010 Matt Clatterbuck

Have you ever heard of Sam? Or Lee? Bucky is a regional player from Binghamton, NY. Believe Matt is from Virginia.

With Alex winning last year and Shane this year, it's time for Allen to pay a bit more attention to the entries. Perhaps removing the "amateur" from the event title would sadly suffice.

Lee, Bucky and Matt at the time they won were good tour stop players that's it

Oh yeah. Almost forgot.

If Allen did this, half the amateurs would not enter, and the tournament would fill up with legitimate top professionals, instead of the "almost pros" that are having a great year or good tournament.

Yep! Pretty sad isn't it? Think monitoring the entries might be a slight bit easier.

Here's what I would do going forward:

Tournament is open to anyone with a Fargo rating 700 and below. If you are above 700 you can request an exemption and they will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Nah. Leave Fargorate out of it.
Fargorate would have done ZERO to stop Rodney from winning when he did as he was simply a road player breaking out into the mainstream when he won.

And then what about if you aren't a professional and don't have an established Fargorate?
Are you banned from the tournament?
More problems and hastle than it's worth.

Tournament is fine as it is.

Crybaby amateurs who feel they deserve to win with shit skills make up the minority of entrants.
The majority of entrants are those who want to play, knowing full well that they might not win, but have a good chance to cash.

Close to 1000 entries every year?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
