Who else had this problem:the rooms were reserved last year & confirmed a week before we got there but when we got there the rooms were gone & they did pay the tab in another hotel 7 1/2 miles away. Not *****ing but it was a low move on their part(& yes they were paid for in advance). All was not lost because the action started as soon as we walked up to the front desk when nick varner came over to b.s as its been a while since seeing all of us & as we were talking, dennis dieckman comes over, gets on his knees & did 3-4 mideastern waves to nick, goes to get up & plants his face into the carpet(yes dennis was wasted), help him up & the bs/ing continues. You just know its going to be a good weekend when the show starts as soon as you walk thru the front door.

Same thing happened to us. We called the Radisson at about 2 o'clock to confirm for a late arrival and at 9 when we arrived they said they had "double booked" our room. Pretty low on their part.

Double booking is a sorry way to do business. I found out my doctor was double booking appointments by accident while I was in the waiting room to be called. I spoke to another person who was waiting also and found out we had the same appointment time with the same doctor. They didn't want to miss a dollar so if one patient doesn't show up they have another one to see and who will pay the bill. The sad part is if both patients show up then you have to sit and wait regardless of your appointment time!

I didn't know that hotels double booked rooms also. This is terrible for people who have to pay travel expenses to get to an event and then when they arrive someone else has their confirmed room!

If they paid for your rooms at another hotel, are they going to pay your taxi fees back and forth, too? I'd have a printout and demand and room, which would most likely be upgraded since I'm pretty sure some of those suites would be available.

Same thing happened to me at the doctors office-I walked out and will never go there again.

A good portion of the time that rooms get double booked is due to "preferred" guests. ie. people who are members of their rewards club and are at like silver/gold/platinum levels. For instance at Marriott, if you are Platinum level, there is no such thing as a sold out hotel (with a few exceptions, like super bowl and events like that). While to you them bumping you for a "preferred" guest is likely to have you not return again, you may stay with them once a year, the "preferred" guest may be spending 100+ nights a year at their chain.

Another thing that also tends to happen is if someone has been in the hotel for say a week, and needs to extend through the next week, they will do it even if they are booked solid on friday night. Having you stay for the extra 6 nights instead of spending them at another hotel will have them bump someone. So, if you have ever been at a hotel and asked to extend your stay, you may have bumped someone else... Very rarely will a hotel double book rooms just to try to keep the rooms 100% filled, infact it's not good business to have 100% booked in advanced...

I've worked in hotels for quite a few years now. Both these things are true, and actually do happen quite a bit.

Another thing... Hotels almost never want to be sold out in advanced, especially when there is an event going on. If a hotel has any rooms available during a big event they know they can jack up the price of these rooms and still sell them easily.

Well brian, my brother-in-law has been a travel agent for near 30 years & yes! they make sure they are 100% booked if at all possible, its an unwriten rule to quote his words. Extended stays happened & granted if theres rooms aval. either for the guest thats staying over or for the booking party that has the reservation, been there done that got the t-shirt. While we were standing there with our d***s in our hand,4 other partys were sent to other hotels & guess what, they all reserved their rooms last year to, feature that.

If they paid for my room 7.5 miles away, I could really care less. That would be a nice bonus.

One year at the BCA, when we got to the Riviera - they were sold out even though we had a reservation. After a 5 minute argument, the manager came over and asked if anyone else in line was a friend of mine. I pointed to two other close friends. They put the four of us in the Frank Sinatra suite at the Riviera. Normally about $2600 a night. It encompasses a corner of one of the towers, with balconies on two sides. This was another good bonus.
