Schjodt Shoots Down Van Buren in Spirit Tour Finals

By AZB Staff

The Ladies Spirit Tour was in action this weekend for their July stop at the Anastasia Billiard Room in St. Augustine, Florida. Twenty-seven players, including three of the top five points list players, threw their hat in the ring for this event.

The big story on Saturday was the play of tour veteran Helene Caukin. Caukin, ranked #20 after playing on four of the five 2006 events, was on a tear scoring a 7-4 win over #1 ranked Tracie Hines and a 7-5 win over #2 ranked Jeannie Seaver to remain unbeaten on Saturday.

Caukin’s Sunday didn’t go as well as Saturday, as she dropped a match to Ellen Van Buren to start Sunday play. Meanwhile, the other winners side match saw Betty Sessions send Debbie Schjodt to the one-loss side. Van Buren went on to take the first hot-seat of her Spirit Tour career with a hill-hill win over Sessions.

On the one-loss side, Debbie Schjodt eliminated Betty Sessions and set her sights on Van Buren in the double elimination finals. This wasn’t Schjodt’s first time playing in the pressure of the, and that experience came through for her as she defeated Van Buren 7-3 and 7-4 for her second tour win in three events.

Schjodt earned $750 for first place, while Van Buren took home $00 in prize money. Sessions and Jeannie Seaver filled out the top four spots.

The Ladies Spirit Tour will be at Capone’s Billiard Loung in Sping Hill, Florida, on September 23-24, 2006, for their next event.

and the Qualifier was for Peoria starting 3 days later!!

Betty would have had to buy airline tickets at the last minute rip-off rates, give notice to her job, make hotel resv etc. I think she wound up trading her spot with someone who could make it and Betty has a spot for next year sometime.

Spirit ladies, you know i love you but WTF happened??

Hey Dave- Whoever went isnt really what i was driving at.

Im wondering why you would have a Q'r for an event starting in 3 days a thousand plus miles away to begin with. Seems quite crazy to me.
