Schmelke Shaft Options

I have a buddy who is going to purchase a Schmelke cue (M90). He is tall so getting a 60" made. Schmelke gives you the option for an extra shaft at time of purchase. A standard 30" shaft goes for $50. A laminated goes for $70. It mentions there is lower deflection with the laminated but who knows for sure?

He is thinking of going with their joint #2 which is a 5/16 x 18. Which option should I tell him to go with for a spare shaft? If anyone out there has a 30" shaft in one of the other joint styles for Schmelke (like the 3/8 x 10) I could have him go that way.

I really don't know many people who use their spare shaft. With that size joint, 5/16-18 he can buy a good shaft anywhere. But at those prices, maybe he should buy and extra shaft.:confused:


Yes...I probably thoroughly confused you but I'm sure some other replies with say it more clearly so you understand.:)
 
I played with a Schmelke cue the other day. It had the 5/16 x 18 pin. It played just fine. But the stainless steel joint was not polished and looked like brushed aluminum. I thought it looked cheap.
 
I haven't tried the other joints, but I am a big fan of the 3/8 x 10. IMO, it gives a great feel.
