Schon butt cap not flush

Ran across an older Schon cue...beautiful condition except that the butt cap is not flush
with the wood surface...the wood is actually larger than the delrin butt cap...1/32 or so...wouldn't expect to see this in a quality cue like Schon...do you suppose the wood
has swelled a bit over time? I know they turn down the butt cap to match the butt...
any ideas?

Schon's use a Delrin butt cap. No finish on delrin. Wet sanding is an option but there is no way to know if you'll go thru the finish on the blend. Which means...if you can't spray, you shouldn't touch it.
 
If the logo looks like the one in the bottom two cues, don't touch it. That's an 80's cue with an older logo and Schön can't duplicate it. If it looks like the one at the top, that's a later logo and I'd send it back to Schön and have the cap replaced. They will also engrave the logo in the cap as well....

What kind of wrap is on the cue? Is it flush with the sleeve finish?

I hate seeing Runde Era Schons w the newer later logo. I think it is a major turnoff to Runde Era Schon collectors.
 
Yeah. the logo looks like the one at the top...off white butt cap...the cue is an stl7...and the difference between the butt cap and the shaft is about the thickness of a piece of printer paper...the wrap is flush with the shaft...there's enough of an edge above the butt cap that I am afraid it will catch and chip off the finish...

possible, I suppose, to polish it down a bit without hurting anything...?
 
As it stands now all you need is a buttcap. Schon can fix that for you, see post#3 above. This guy is very experienced and is giving you good advice.

The finish on your cue may not be thick enough for you to sand it or polish it flush. If you sand or polish through the finish you will have a bigger (more expensive) problem than you have now and your cue will look like crap until you get the re-finish that you will then need. You will not be happy. You will say bad things.

Send it to Schon. Your cue will look great. You will be happy. You will show it off to your friends and talk about what great advice you got on AZ and how you narrowly dodged a bullet.

I would guess at least 30% of the repairs I do are to correct owner-induced mountains that should have been mole hills.
