ok fellow posters, it seems to me that its generally understood that Schon might perhaps be the best playing production cue out there. so i am starting to ponder getting me a Schon to go along with my Nova, Jacoby, Lucasi, and Cuetec cues.

my question is simply, where do i go to get the best deal on a Schon? what series should i consider? how much can i expect to pay?

any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
DCP

I hear tell that Erik Lee has good deals on production cue. He's at http://www.erikleecues.com/!

Not to dis' Schon but for the price why not get a custom cue? I used to have a Schon SP25 which was there top of the line. Great cue, but not worth the money in my opinion. I would rather have a plain 4 point custom cue such as this Time Scruggs for the money.

Just my opinon.

I second that...Erik Lee has the best prices and best service.

I cant understand why players buy schon cues. if you look at the points and inlays they are rounded not sharp. why? because they were cut with a CNC machine. for the price of a schon you can get a custom cue with your pwn personal specifications (joint, wrap, weight, balance point) bob dzuricky makes great cues from what i hear and i have one on order. for that much get a custom.

Spartan's got a point here.
But if you're willing to get a good, used Schon, you can usually lop off half the price. More reasonable then, yes?

i dont think id buy a new schon, because of the price, but id definitely buy another used one like the one i have now. 6 points, ringwork, irish linen wrap, had one bad ding in the butt near the cap, 2 shafts, all for 350 off of sleezebay

goto ErikLeecues.com he has seriously the lowest prices around.

Plus if you get a good Schon like a LTD series or something, you can easily sell the cue for the same price as you bought it or more.

He is asking about Schon.

eBay has some interesting used Schons for about half of list. Seems like 20% off list is standard for a new one bought via an on-line store. Looks like you can get a bit more than 20% off on some new ones from eBay.

I know some folks don't care much for eBay, but I bought my regular playing cue - Mezz ZZ with 314 and custom leather wrap - used for a great price and the guy who sold it to me thought I was paying him a great price. Two happy guys and a great cue.

The garden variety schons play just as well, if not the same, as the ltd or elite series. If I were to want a schon, I would wait till an old R series (the ones made by Runde) cue with sharp spliced points to surface on the market. You can get a R series 4 pointer at a reasonable condition for the same amount of money you would pay for a low end LTD series cue on Ebay. The R series are far more collectible and will increase in value faster than the CNC Schons. I've also been told they are better playing, though I have no actual experience comparing the old and new Schons.

Bob Runde era Schons are a different story. They didnt make as many cues and all of their points and inlays hand cut. Those are collectibles.

well, what about the Schon CX-02 model? i kinda like the looks of it. anybody have any thoughts on it? or does anyone play with one?

I think all schons pretty much plays the same. If you're buying a schon, the amount of money you spend correlates directly with how fancy you want your cue to look.

That's exactly right. The very plainest Schon will play precisely the same as the top-of-the-line model.

I'll second the thought that ALL Schon Cues play the same regardless of price. For the guys that tell you to buy a "custom" cue. Who says they're better playing cues? Who says they're better made? A good pool player will play well with a house cue. One of our good local players has a very expensive simple four point cue from a top custom maker. He accidently picked up my Schon "break" stick and played rack after rack with it. When I told him I needed to play with my cue, he looked at it and said " I must be going blind, it looks the same". He's correct. I does look the same till you get really close up. The secret is, it played the same. He didn't notice the $2000 price differential. So much for "production" cues aren't as good. As they now say, get real!

I have a Schon LTD for sale. Real nice. Lots of ivory & I think micarta. Retail about $1500. Will let it go for $900. Not a mark on this baby.

With a custom you get exactly what you ask for. Everything made the way you want it. Thats not the case with Schon. Also, their craftmanship isnt that great anymore.

Go to Erik...

I purchased my Scon from Erik...geat price, great service...all around good experience...as far as CX models, they are produced by Schon specifically for sale through the distributer CueStix Intl. I'd by an STL or LTD model, just for value and resale...can't go wrong with Erik no matter what...
