Schon Has Arrived!

well, i broke some racks of 9-Ball, and of course the balls didnt cooperate for a long, LONG time, as usual...............

however, they finally cooperated a little bit, and i managed to run a few racks with it. of course, messed up a few too, mostly because i was hitting them a lil too hard. that tip is harder than what i like.

anyway, its a dandy, just need to get it modified slightly, to the specs i like, then it will be all good to go. even got some joint protectors with this cue, didnt realize they were included.

and i wanted to ask, now this might be the dumbest question of all time, but.............

can this stained birdseye maple have the stain removed?

I think you answered your own question. :D

Just kidding - I don't know.

its the CX-02 model, from Shane down at Platinum Billiards in Jacksonville. the man is quite the salesman, knows how to get and keep a customer.

will probably have Chad Carter tweak the cue for me after a few days. get a pressed elkmaster tip, get the shaft down to around 12.7 mm, redo the taper a little, and replace the Black w/white specs linen wrap to White w/dbl black specs.

on a sad note, i had to bury Fred last night. Fred (named after Fred Sanford) was my cat of 16 years. he was starting to go downhill, just didnt realize he would go that fast.........:(

You took me up on my post telling you that Platinum carried the CX-02.
Glad you like it, getting a new cue is as much fun as getting a new girlfriend, and sometimes better, because you can make money with the cue, girlfriends usually cost you money .... LOL

Congrats on your Schon and welcome to the club. You should get the bylaws and secret handshake in the mail in a couple of days. LOL.

Nope, that's why it's called "stain". Ask Platinum if they will exchange it for a lighter one? Doesn't hurt to ask. I found the Schon tip too hard as well, changed it out to a Moori Med. and absolutely love it.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your cat.

Hit'em straight,
Mike

the verdict is pretty much in - LUV this Schon!!!

ran about 10 racks with it tonight, hadnt ran that many in a long, long time. finally got some decent rolls off the break after the first half hour or so. did mess up some racks/shots i think due to the stiff hit, just didnt feel all that comfortable a few times.

once i get Mr. Carter down there in Owensboro to tweak this shaft a little, and get me a pressed elkmaster on, it will rank right up there with the other cues i have as far as playability. the other cues being the Chad Carter Custom with the ivory joint/ferrule, the Nova Custom, and the Jacoby.

as far as the stain, i am not sure that i might like it better this way. once i get the black w/white specs linen wrap changed to a white w/black or dbl black specs it might even look better, dunno, just have to see.

I know what you mean about the tip! This is the first time that I've played with the Schon tips, because I have always ordered mine from Hawley's with Moori tips. Since I've been having problems with Moori's and haven't decided on a permanent replacement, I decided to try the Schon tips since I've been hitting with the Sumo tips recently and was under the impression that the hardness was about the same--NOT! The Schon tip makes the Sumo feel like an Elkmaster, and I had some problems initially with miscues. Yesterday, however, I started to realize that this tip and shaft combination allows you to get a significant amount of action without moving very far from the center, and it produces a really nice, crisp hit.

I'm really thinking about leaving those hard tips on for a while. I'm a big fan of using the interior of the cue ball, and I suspect that perhaps sacrificing a 1/3 of a tip's width on the outside of the cue ball may be a fair exchange for the increased ability to get what I want in the middle. And I have increased accuracy in the bargain!

Edit: Now that I'm thinking about this, maybe it would make sense to use a dime shape instead of the nickel for this tip. I might end up with the best of both worlds, as the dime should allow me to go out a little further in cases of extreme need. What do you guys think about the relationship between tip hardness and the proper tip shape?

I had a CX-23 which I sold some time ago to a fella in Hawaii but I had always kept my ST-7. The following is a foto of an STL-9, very similiar to mine.

Here's the CX-23 I once owned:

My other cue is a Lucasi L-10 U, similar to the Lucasi L-2002.

they are great cues, i just couldnt ever play good with them, but thats just me, congrats,

sure is funny...........

keep running racks with this Schon! dunno why, cause i dont really like the hit of that Schon tip, its a little too hard, and the shaft diameter (13mm) is a little too thick for me, and those have caused me to mal-function a couple of chances at runouts.

but, like i have said before, so far this cue gets an A!!!
