Schon Improvements

calibration

I have a Schon cue that is a favorite of mine but....
I want to make some subtle changes

Balance weight: The cue is already just a bit to heavy at 19.5 oz with the weight bolt removed.
Butt diameter is just a bit to thick
Shaft just doesn't have that Ping tone that I personnaly like.
Forearm stain is just a bit to light
Also want to change the leather wrap.

Thoughts:
Have the cue refinished. darkening the forearm stain color and taking a little of the butt diameter. Add a small weight bolt. New leather wrap. Thats all easy and understood but.

What about taking some weight out of the pin. Lighter material maybe Titanium. Taking some material off the Stanless Joint Collar and adding a lighter Ivory like collar. Getting an older shaft with more wood density but also smaller in diameter (12.7mm)

Can anyone offer some other suggestions

Sounds like you're ready to order a custom cue and retire the Schon altogether. Probably cheaper

What he said. that's a lot of changes. it sounds like you think the cue's alright but doesn't play the way you really want it to.

Yep , I'd order a custom the way you want , don't chase a hit or feel by changing the Schon ... You may decrease the value and not be satisfied...This is America and you can do what you want but I've been there and done that ... Plenty of more than qualified craftsman here so you are in the right neighberhood ...Knock on some doors

I really don't think the changes you note are subtle; in fact they seem to be drastic. By the time you cut down the diameter of the butt, refinish the cue, lower the weight by drilling out the butt and making a new shaft you will not have a Schon Cue. You might like the changed cue but there is a possibility that you will not. If you don't like it you will have ruined a perfectly good Schon Custom Cue.

I suggest you order a very plain custom cue made to your specifications to try it out. You should be able to buy one for about $400.00. If you like it you might want to order a cue that is finished out a little more.

Good Luck in your quest,
