I know the size of a Schon pin, or should I say I almost know the size of the pin. I need to purchase a bolt to screw into the shaft so I can work on it. I've read about other shafts fitting schons but Schon shafts won't fit others. Help. Lol I'm heading over to my local bolt shop if there's a standard size that will fit. Thanks.

It's a .302x14. I have .298x14's but I don't sell to non cue makers. I hope the info helps.

Here is what you need. I made my 5/16-14 lathe pins around .300" OD so they would spin a Schon shaft.

If you only want that one item call or email for $8 shipping. The website only figures UPS and that will be most likely double that. But if you want to recondition your shaft I suggest using the shopping cart check out and add some Shaft sealer, cleaner and wax to the order.

You are wasting your time going to a bolt store. The reason a Schon will not go on a lot of other cues is because their insert is tighter and their pilot is bigger. But mostly because of the larger pilot.

Your screw is a good size. Does your mandrel have a counter sink atleast .530 or larger or is it flat faced?

you won't find anything in any kind of store!! It's a bastard thread. How are you going to spin it if you had something?? Could buy cheap joint protector "IF" you have something big enough to put it in

If you want to spin shafts to clean and seal them and you don't have a threaded mandrel..............

Buy a piece of delrin off Ebay or you can even use a wooden dowel.

Turn your piece to look like a maintenance pin but with no threads.... just turn it to slide into the shaft.... make the pin about 1 inch long..... slip an O ring or a rubber grommet on it to drive the shaft............use a concave center on the tip end...

cheap and easy ..... I have several for odd screw sizes. ......

Why the negative hostility????

I use a delrin driver a lot.......... never had a problem ... it works great....

Not negative at all. Delrin yes. Wood? C'mon that's funny and not for beginners. Which WE, are usually trying to help here. On a flat faced joint, the delrin is a good option if done carefully. Myself, I'd be extra careful using it against the facing on a brass insert where it didn't bottom against the joint collar. It will and does work but caution should be used. (Beginners remember)
Mr. Hightowers mandrells look great but! If the 5/16x14 and 5/16x18 are not set up to go over a piloted joint. I personally would make a bushing that was bored out except for .100 and thread it, so it could just screw right on to the flat faced mandrell and make it universal to accommodate both styles. Before I try to help someone, I think about what could go wrong, not so much, what will go wrong.

On this forum. I have read this is the way I do it and I've never had a problem so many times that, and I'm sorry. I find it funny. I sought of find it disrespectful and I don't mean to. But, some of you forget about the level of beginners your trying to help.
Will any of you take responsibility if someone screws something up or even worse, gets hurt based of what was advised?
Will AZ, because the individual participated and was advised on their forum. I don't know but I do wonder. Atlas use to sell a set of DVD's. That ended because of safety issues in the methods shown.

Ok.... words sometimes do not show intent................

I just think that if someone is capable of making the tool that I described........... they most likely could use it safely...........

good idea about the piloted shaft..... but most people have a 5/16-18 and a 5/16-14 maint mandrels.....and those are the most likely to have a pilot........ the problem usually comes with the odd ball 3/8 pins that are radial or un standard threads...........
