When did Schon start to put their name on shafts vertically? I would assume that it is post 93. Also, is there a general estimate on time if the shaft finish is yellowed on a Schon shaft? Thanks.

Yes - I think they started stamping the logo on the shaft wood about 1995or right in there. They used another gold stamp on the actual collar for a few years before that starting in 1992 or right around there.

You can estimate a date on a Schon shaft in a couple of ways. The older shafts from the 1980's used micarta ferrules which yellowed quite a bit. The old stitch rings were used as standard until about 1988 when they switched to nickle silver, but you could still order stitch rings (and still can). The newer shafts with stitch rings made in about 1995 and later will have the stamped logo.

The old shafts from the 1980's used phenolic linen for the collars and you can see the netting in the resin. Even earlier, they used brown phenolic linen. The later shafts, 1990's on, have a solid black look.

It's hard to tell if an early Schon shaft is original, but generally speaking, the original ones will fit "just right" when you screw it in.
