hey all you AZer's got a question

i just received a schon cue in the mail today and i was wondering


Does Schon use Ivory for their butt caps, i know they do for inlays but upon closer inspection i can see ivory like grains ( "crazing" if you want to get technical) in the butt cap

I've never seen a Schon cue with an ivory butt cap. I guess some where along the way they've built a cue with an ivory butt cap, but you won't see that on a regular Schon cue. It wouldn't make sense on a production cue and it's quite an expensive option on a custom cue!
 
that's kinda what i was thinking, i mean a butt cap is a big chunk of material to be making out of ivory, i was talking to my buddy Don(pulzcul) and he said it's most likely Delrin

Almost certain it is delrin. ;)

schon butt caps are not ivory.. they are a ivorine or some sort of imititation ivory.. i dont think they are delrin though...

schon i used to have it looked soo much like ivory but i knew it wasnt..

usually every thing else is ivory though..

I had a Schon LTD and i think all schons are like this, the bumper screw holds on the butt cap, And i actually took it off one day when trying to add weight to the cue lol.

And i believe it was just like delrin, I know it wasnt Ivory, but I'd think if someone wanted a Ivory Butt custom made it might happen, who knows.

You could just take it to a cue maker and get his opinion. Or it might be something like Ivorine i dunno.

According to a description I read by e-bay seller Aska Cues, the butt plate is "high impact delrin". I shoot with Schons and that looks like delrin to me...

Here's wikipedia's definition of delrin:

Delrin is the brand name for an acetal resin engineering plastic discovered and sold by DuPont. Often marketed and used as a metal substitute, Delrin is a lightweight, low-friction, and wear-resistant plastic capable of operating in temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The Food and Drug Administration has approved Delrin for use in the food industry.

Good to know if you're gonna' be shootin' pool in the summertime around here.
 
I'm actually impressed by the FDA food use rating. Now I can safely stir my martinis with the buttcap of my cue:p
