Schon R-6 and brown phenolic Schon shafts

I have a stitched ring r-6 coming in the mail and it will need a new wrap. What was the old material, irish linen or cortland? Also, the two shafts that are coming with the cue are old brown phenolic with silver rings. The guy lived/s down the street from Bob Runde and Bob told him that the shafts are real old. What are the brown phenolic shafts worth? All I know is that they are under 13mm. I will have specs and photos when I get it. It should be here by Wednesday. Who would be a good person to do a re-wrap? Thanks

Ols Schons

Patrick,

If the shafts are straight I would say they are worth maybe $150 - $175 each.

I would write to Bob Runde and ask him to refinish / rewrap the cue. My second choice would be Evan at Schon.

Anxious to see some pics of this one.

I can tell you right now from the photos that the veneers are blue thin black blue and black. It looks like it is pretty good shape. Wednesday is when I should have it. Can't wait.

Just got my R6 in the mail today. Used, but not really abused. The bumper is rock hard, the butt cap is a milky white, the ebony is jet black and the maple is straight grain. Veneers are a nice blue, black, blue to black. Needs a rewrap. The shafts are probably around 12mm, but the wood is really nice. The down side is that I will need to have the ferrules replaced, which sucks since they are ivory. I think the Tru Balance 1 piece I have will be a perfect candidate for a matching shaft to be made. Coolest part, it came in an old soft case with the schon logo on it. I will post photos tomorrow and later once I have the rewrap done.

Sounds like a really nice piece of cue History"

Shafts

I spoke with Evan Clarke today and he stated that the brown phenolic and nickel ring shafts are from 1981. I have spoke with a few that like and collect the old Schons, and no one had seen these shaft collars before. Kinda cool. What is even cooler, is that they play amazing.

Very nice R-6. That is the one I would like to pick up on day. Very interesting shafts too.
