schon R-6?

I have two r-6s one has much longer points than the other.Did some one supply some blanks or did they change point lengths at some point in the 80s?both have silver rings.Anybody know thanks Bill
 
There was recently an r-9 on ebay which had round points. It was an r-9, stitched rings, scripted S in the Schon, but was made after they started using the cnc. Not sure if that helps or not.

Bob Runde would know for sure.
 
I was told by Chris Tate (palmercollector) that some of the early Schon cues had forearms made by Gus Szamboti and those forearms had longer points. There is a lot of controversy about this as Evan Clarke of Schon has stated that they always made their own point blanks, but Barry Szamboti has order forms from Gus that say that Schon ordered a bunch of pointed blanks which they used in some of their cues. You can search here on the forum there's a couple threads on this subject. I had an R6 that had very long points that Chris thought was probably a Szamboti blank but i dunno.

I :thumbup:would think the prongs built by Gus would be worth more money therefore if you can prove it, your R6 is worth more.

I would guess that Bob Runde would have cut the Szamboti's apart. (for information, If the cue said schon, every part should be made by bob. Bob Runde is a very underrated Cuemaker. Just my 02.cents mark
 
I called Bob Runde shortly after I got my R6. I had heard the same Szamboti thing. If Barry has records, I believe him that his father sold some to Bob. Bob laughed when I asked him about Szamboti forearms and stated he made all of his. Tate relayed the longer point info to me and also mentioned he thought the straight grain forearms where/are likely Gus's. Mine is straight grain and yellowed from time, but my points are the same distance to the joint ring as the butt sleeve, IIRC.

Bob was a machinist for a horn company and setup McD's machines for them back in day. He had a number of years under his belt making cues before he set up Schon with Terry.

Post pictures of the two forearms side by side so were can see what we are talking about.
