What's the story? Is this cue for sale? If so, please PM a price. Thanks.

Shon

""""I remember when I bought my first Schon in the early 80's I has been playing with a Jim Rempe cue(first cue I ever bought) and had been saving up to buy a Joss or Joss West as this is what my teacher played with and he swore by them. When I got my money up we both traveled to Riverside Calif. a place called Arlington Pool Supply ... The owners name was John and I told him I was looking for a Joss for around 500.00 he showed me a few then pulled a cue off the wall... And told me to shoot a few balls with it ... He told us it came from a new cue maker that was just coming out on the market and he started making cues in his garage or something??? He said the guy was trying to get his name established and he was trying to sell a few of his sticks he would give me a heck of a deal on it if I was willing to buy it . I loved the feel of the stick it had the balance of no other cue I had ever held and it hit like a dream. I took the cue and my hopes of getting that Joss or Joss West went right out the window ...A year or two later my parents and brother where living in Georgia and my wife I decided to move closer to my familiy ...My son was born, my wife and I had a falling out and I was granted sole custody of my son. I raised him alone and put that cue up in it's case in the closet and gave up playing pool to raise my son...

Last Sept 11th my son turned 18 and I went to the closet grabbed the cue and started playing again, 20 plus years after I had bought the cue. When I would play people would look at my cue and ask to see it ... I had all kind of offers to sell it and offered good money and it kind of surprised me at what a interest everyone had in my cue. I got on the net and started looking at cues, Boy had the world of cues changed since the early eighties I did'nt even recognize half the names on the market now ... Had never heard of Viking or Preditor or several others ... And I was pleasantly surprised to see that the cue maker John told me about the day I bought my cue had indeed got his name out on the market... The Cue I had bought is a Schon R-11 it is listed in the very first catalog Schon ever came out with. I don't know what the value is on it today ... If someone has a idea perhaps they can tell me... Hawk 4863 has taken pictures of it ... I don't have any pics or a way to post them. I know the shafts they make today with the silver ring around them dont match up to it in design ... Mine has a broken line around the joint for ring work... Mine came with with two shafts ... I will never sell it and it still hits just as it did the first day I bought it very SWEET ... This Schon is the second cue I ever bought in my life ... After the Rempe ... What a surprise to quit playing pool and come back and find out what a name Schon made for themselves... If I'm not mistaken my Schon was made during the Bob Runde era perhaps by Bob Runde ??? I don't know for sure can someone with more knowledge of the history of Schon then me give me some info on the cue and Schon ... Thank you ...""""

I made this post under another thread but thought I would repost it here... My R-11 is just like the one above the only exceptions being the veneers are done in red and the windows are also done in red ... I have had this cue since I bought it brand new 20 plus years ago I love the cue and the way it plays I'm having a custom made and thinking about putting the schon up seeing it a older one ... It does have some battle scars nothing terrible normal wear and tear a couple little nicks one of the shafts have never been used ... I had thought about having it refinished but not sure if that would be smart ... does anyone have an opinon ???

OK D,
I know you can rub it in a little but i will find 1 someday.I hope!!!!

It sounds like it is in good condition. I'd leave it as is if I were you. One owner, never refinished cues are worth more. If you do refinish I would try to keep the original wrap.

I bet your cue could fetch $850 - $900 in the current market. Let me know if you want to sell.

Thanks ...

Thanks for offer Hersheybarbilli and even more for the info ... I can't sell the cue it has been a part of me for a long time now ... It was with me before my son was even born ... And is the only thing I have left from the times me and my teacher would run around Southern California looking for games that was in the early eighties and late seventies. He has passed now but we had some good times he grew up in a small town in Kentucky , Owensborro is how I believe it is spelled ... He always told me he knew Nick Varner and his Dad and use to shoot in thier pool room and would visit them when he went back home every once in awhile. He always chuckled when he told me how Nicks Dad always called him Nicky... I was not sure I really believed him till we traveled to Vegas to watch a pro tournament and Nick was playing in it ...When he seen my teacher Rex Case he walked up to him and started talking to us like he knew us all his life, He may of known Rex that long...lol ...I was kind of surprised that a pro player could be so kind and humble it was a moment I will never forget. We were glued to Nick and his games the whole time we were there.

Funny thing when I put my cue up I was not sure that I would ever play again . Was not sure what I would do with my cue , Rex would call every once in a while and ask me to send it to him... I held onto it and I'm glad I did now... I read on this board somewhere that you can never really leave the game of pool...I guess that is true I love it now as much as I did back when I bought the Schon...

Thanks for the info and posting and showing those old Schons ... They are awesome.

very nice cue.. The R11 is catching my attention though, very simple..:)

You don't see many R11's. You can buy a nice R12 right now on this forum for $850 (or so) which, to me, is a steal.

The R11 is a lower level of a cue but a little more rare, so ?? wich is worth more? Just depends on what the buyer is looking for I suppose.

Thanks, the R11 is one of my favorites. I got it from a friend who got me hooked on the cue thing in the first place.

What size pin?

I was wondering as I'm not much up on termonology of cues but what size pins did they use in these older Schons like the R-11 AND R-12 ... I was thinking about getting a predetor or OB1 shaft for my cue but not sure what shaft size I would need ...

Thanks in advance your help.

Schon Elite E48

Here's a few pictures of a new Schon Elite I just received from Michael Hoang. I couldn't be happier with the looks in person and it plays fantastic with a Runde shaft.

Thanks,
Ryan

Standard 5/16 x 14 pin. It will be easy to find a shaft.

That's a great looking cue. Fits in with your others nicely.
