"Science" an Improper Term? - Pocket Billiards is Knowledge, Physics and Geometry

IS Pool a Scince.....or.....Are Some Pool Players Scientists.

Science (from the Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge" or "knowing") is the effort to discover and increase human understanding of how physical reality works. Using controlled methods, scientists collect data in the form of observations, records of observable physical evidence of natural phenomena, and analyze this information to construct theoretical explanations of how things work. Knowledge in science is gained through research. The methods of scientific research include the generation of hypotheses about how natural phenomena work, and experimentation that tests these hypotheses under controlled conditions. The outcome or product of this empirical scientific process is the formulation of theory that describes human understanding of physical processes and facilitates prediction.

Lavoisier says, "... the impossibility of separating the nomenclature of a science from the science itself is owing to this, that every branch of physical science must consist of three things: the series of facts which are the objects of the science, the ideas which represent these facts and the words by which these ideas are expressed."

It's been approved and approaching a vote by all the members of AZBILLIARDS.

We will now use Physics, Geometry, Physiology, Knowledge and Kinesiology individually instead of grouping them all under "science"

Do I hear any objections?

Okay, let it be known that on January 13th 2015 .........

I object.

Let's start a new vote; I vote to remove you from AzB

Don't know what this has to do with the thread, but it seems you missed a few chapters. I say that since you put it in blue so no one would miss it that anyone that dares disagree with you is labeled a "hater". That the "haters" should think twice about posting anything that disagrees with you with the fear of being banned. No one is allowed to have a differing opinion than yours, or they are "haters". Totally goes against what you are trying to preach on here. Maybe you should go study some more.;)

But Neil, this is true for almost all topics on this forum. The only thing I hate here on AZB is the constant use of the word "hater" by grown men. Suck it up, guys, not everyone will agree with you. When a dude disagrees with you in real life do you call him a "hater"? I'd think not. Why is it so common to jump to that conclusion on the Internet?

It's probably not proper "forum etiquette" to post copied material without referencing the link, or encoding it visibly.

AtLarge told me this long ago, and I try to do it every time. If not it appears that you wrote what you're posting.

It's not just a breach of "forum etiquette", it's outright plagiarism.

Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work...

...Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions like penalties, suspension, and even expulsion...

...Plagiarism on the Internet
Content scraping is copying and pasting from websites and blogs...

Maybe AZB forum plagiarists deserve the same treatment for the offense as it receives in academia? (yes, yes!)

Actually, it cocks up, like holding your hands out from your hips and cocking the club head to eye level or above. Hank Haney used to make me do a drill over an over to stress this wrist motion. (Position "A" below shows the fully cocked position)

I also saw him do it a lot with Tiger Woods. This is training your wrist motion as precisely as possible, so you get more speed with less effort.

Many pool players have a wrist motion like in other sports/games, they just need to continue to seek to improve, this is a vital part of reaching your next level. (my wrist and hand movement is similar to my golf and tennis motion as well).

We, pros, never stop trying to improve, from the stroke to the hand position to the stance, it all has to be going forward, or you risk falling behind (this can eventually lead to a "slump")

th
Actually the only sport/game that has a wrist movement like pool is darts ,,

Thanks CJ.

I'll try to remember that. I forgot who my 'audience' might be here on AZB.

Best 2 Ya,
Rick

PS I hope you don't AZB all together when you focus more on Facebook, Google, & YouTube.

Not true. I've pointed out several times here that the wrist motion in CJ's photo is nearly identical to that used in a fly casting stroke. Even the grip is very similar to a modern distance caster's grip, as well as where in the timing of the casting (pool stroke) cycle that motion is used properly.

CJ spews a lot of nonsense here, but that doesn't mean much of what he is saying has no merit. I'm suspect he feels he is casting pearls before swine most of the time, and that probably amuses him to the point where he mixes a bunch of mumbo-jumbo in with the wisdom he provides. I roll my eyes at a lot of his posts, but I'm always on the lookout for a real solid tip nearly hidden in the fog.

The big point is, no matter how you use it, the wrist is a key component in most throwing actions, and that includes throwing the cue along the shot line.

I going to retract that to none , darts and casting are overhand like a hammer , pool is underhand and the power comes from the wrist moving in the opposite direction

A hater is someone that can never find a way to agree with someone ever. Follows someone around in thread after thread never giving their side of an opinion. Just has to state how dumb someone else's is. Play devil advocate when they actually agree with someone.

Good. That describes one particular poster I know to a T. Lol

Now that we have a formal definition, maybe folks will stop using it inappropriately... like calling someone a hater because he actually has an opinion.

So with this definition. If the guy truly believed in his point on the problem, then he is not a hater. Am I right ?

Healthy arguments are a good platform for growth.

I have learned most of the important things in life from people that had different opinions, knowledge,and/or philosophies.

Healthy arguments are a good platform for growth. My life has been greatly enhanced by having to explain the same topic in many various ways. This is how we develop flexibly, and the person with the most flexibility will also have the most self control.

I'm sure you know this from your martial arts studies. Stretching is essential for overall health {as well as} mind and body development.....it's also very painful at first, but over time the pain turns to pleasure.

Just for the record, I was not speaking of you at all when I made that post.:)

this still must be done in an environment that's conducive to brainstorming.

I would hope not, guess I should have highlighted the part about having different opinions. This is what I was addressing, that's it's actually healthy and productive to differ in through and idea.

However, this still must be done in an environment that's conducive to brainstorming.

It's a New Year!

Haters, by my definition are those people who regularly patrol the forums, seeking out particular individuals and attempting to ridicule their posts and perspectives in hopes of getting a rise out of the poster. It is a sport of a few that is practiced on this forum ad nauseam. This practice has driven many valuable posters away from this forum. I see that you have been around the forum for three years and that should be long enough to see that there are some valuable missing posters. Perhaps they will return.

It seems that the moderators have taken steps to muzzle the haters and it seems to be working better.

BTW, I don't consider you a hater, not at this point anyway. :D The haters know who they are.

As far as your "hate" of grown men using the word "haters", it's just a reminder to those who are haters to back off. Disagree with me anytime, in a civil way and you will most likely get a civil response or none at all. Follow me around the forum and act like a hater and I will call you one.

BTW, Neil isn't a hater imo but some people get under his skin and that seems to bother him greatly.

Who knows, maybe the increased moderator interest in what is being said and how it is being said, might turn this forum around.

Haters and Baiters...it is a fine line to distinguish. My only hope is that this post drives a few grown men away from the forum.
One can hope. 😈
