If your tip and ferrule came off you should still get out.
He played it with follow, bumping up the 8-ball where it had no pocket. I tried to cinch it past the 4-ball since it was a Valley with big pockets, but no dice. So it was my fault for missing the 8-ball I guess. I asked him why he didn't use draw. He thought he'd draw it into the 3-ball.
We did have a timeout available and I'm kicking myself for not using it. I just assumed he would try to use draw. He's a good player, but I guess he didn't feel comfortable with draw (he stated he felt he would draw into the 3-ball, but I thought there was no problem).Did you have a timeout available?
Were the 3, 8, 14 laying like that the entire rack?
The 8-ball ended up near the rail about two balls up and the cueball ended up a bit below where the 8-ball was. There was room to squeeze the 8-ball past the 4-ball and hope the rail was dead enough to hold and cheat the corner pocket. It bounced slightly wide.I'd like to see the diagram of your shot on the 8 ball. In the diagram you show the 8 ball has a few pockets depending on how bad he left you?

Playing for 3rd in a small Scotch Doubles tournament this weekend, I left this shot for my partner. He needed to make the 14-ball and get me shape on the 8-ball. He's a 550+ FargoRate on a bar box.
We ended up 4th. I was kind of upset.
I call it f#&k your buddy.Scotch doubles was already foolish!

I'm out!I call it f#&k your buddy.![]()
Just playing devil's advocate here: Why complain about his shot when you left him so straight on the 14? Put the cue ball 3 to 12 inches higher or 3 to 8 inches lower and making the 14 with a good leave on the 8 becomes way easier, nearly automatic. To paraphrase an old rule book, remove the log from your own eye before criticizing the speck in someone else's. The same book also says something about glass houses.![]()
My go to line is "i left my partner an oppurtunity to be awesome"Mine is “ I’ll turn you into a champion. You’ll shoot shots you never thought you would. Welcome to my world “.
Make that Team Mates. Keeping my mind right at leagues last night helped me ...keep up with The Wife and team mate.Projecting confidence and care free for my partner.
Just one question, and I will admit to having not read any further before posting this, but how much did you two discuss the shot beforehand? Communication is KEY in Scotch IMHO...I did learn a lot though. I think we gave each other solid advice, but in the end, I think we each should have trusted our instincts instead of blindly following each others' advice. We both took shots we thought the other person wanted us to and probably would have done better had we just shot what we were comfortable with.
Holy crap you nailed it there. People sometimes play Scotch like it's a 4 way singles game.Just playing devil's advocate here: Why complain about his shot when you left him so straight on the 14? Draw off the 14 and use the 3 to get better shape. High is tricky. That's a tight shape pattern. If you're going to use high, crank it 2 rails and kiss the 8 up for a Straight in side pocket shot. Perhaps that's what your partner was trying. Straight draw for a 550 might leave you off target toeard the 6 ball so draw and clip the 3 so the cb moves uptable for an easy 8. Don't clip the 3 so hard that it hits rail and comes up to block pocket. I'd go with high and put the 8 in the side.View attachment 771383
