As long as it is not cracked the scratches will have no effect on the shaft or how it plays.

real question

Is why is your ferrule scratch up?

I dont know what you are doing wrong but if your ferrule is getting scratch up. You are doing somthing that isnt right.

allot of ferrule wear is from,
You are replacing the tip without a lathe
When you sand the side of the tip you are also sanding the ferrule.
When you are chalking up you are rubbing the side of the ferrule with the cube of chalk . After a while your ferrule will have a hour glass shape.

Problem is on a predator shaft the ferrule is thin so you dont have much room to screw it up.
last problem is the ferrule is special and not all cue repairman carry all the special ferrules in stock.

Like to edit this in.
If your cue repairman is not up to speed on repairing predator shafts, dont let him touch it.
Send it back to predator.

Most all of the new Ld shafts take a special ferrule. And I am sorry to say but some of these Ld shafts are a disaster waiting for the first person that tries to repair it.

No
...but a bad omen might be brewing and you could possibly be scratching a whole lot more now.

my 314 2's ferrule is badly scratched. does this affect playability?

Yes...if you let it get in your head, it will affect playability--YOUR playability. What scratched it? Something in your case? Do you replace your tips by hand?

I replaced a tip a few days ago and later that day i used the ultimate tip tool to even the edges a little.. it didn't look like it would hurt the ferrule because the sand paper is a little recessed.. long story short: I did this in low light and didn't notice the scratches until i looked at the shaft in better light.

scratches

This is why I bought my own cue lathe...........................................

Can you live with the scratches?

The scratches are chalk magnets, chalk gets into the scratches make your ferrule look like shit.
This is a very common mistake. I would fill the scratches with carnauba wax so atleast it can be cleaned and rewaxed

I strongly suggest that you dont sand on your shaft any more ............................ not even to clean up your old scratches.
