Screw-on tips?

Oooops....I failed to realize who the OP was before answering the question.

I must have gotten up too early also!!!!

Maniac (still stands by his answer though!!!)

I knew who it was when I saw the title. :speechless:

A small whale...

Actually I think Push n Pool is actually just oblivious to the world of quality equipment and play and is not just posting things to get silly replies. Anything he asks is a real question in his mind, although along with the rest of the forum I'm confused as to why the accepted correct ideas about pool (deliberate shots are better than hitting things randomly, what a "good" cue is vs a crappy one, etc...) have not quite filtered into his knowledge.

Or he is just a dumb troll, seems a lot easier to believe.

Yeah, I dont know what to make of OP either. Not many people are newer to pool than me and I realize there is no such thing as a dumb question but, REALLY??:rotflmao1:
You can learn a tremendous amount by surfing the interweb in a short period of time.

They become loose. They are made of inferior leather. They wear out quickly. They have a screw that adds to tip endmass (if it is metal) and often metal in the ferrule as well. They add an extra layer of plastic between you and the cue.

I didn't really notice any end-mass issue when I used one for a little bit. The problem was that they were really cheap and would flatten out in no time. Luckily, I had a bag of them in my case, so I could switch out! Once or twice the plastic backing on the tip cracked, too. Another problem is that everybody made fun of me for it.. now they have to make fun of me for something else. :embarrassed2:

I have been playing well over 25 years. I have played with cues with screw on tips. Some are not as bad as made out to be. As long as the tip is not overly heavy (which would increase deflection) and as long as the tip is screwed in tight. If they start coming loose it can effect the way it hits..

Would I use one as an every day player? NO. I like knowing how my cue is going to shoot. However, in a pinch, and If I needed to, I still can play a fairly decent game even with a screw on tip.

Frankly....

Hi,
Thanks for the advice on screw-ons. I had these 2 old cues with screw-on ferrules-with-tips. Now I realize that they were screwing up my game. So I trashed them. And those 2 old Paradise cues looked screwy anyway, compared to modern cues.
Take care,
Nick

All my cues, Schons, Predators, and Customs have been converted to accept screw on tips.

I buy 50 at a time, chop the tips off of them and put Mooris, Kamuis, Ultra Skins etc on them.

Sometimes I will have a break tip on one shaft, break with it and change the tip out to a playing tip.

Only takes a few seconds. That way you only need one shaft and you can have up 50 tips
or more in your case.

I have no idea why more people don't roll this way.
