This Scruggs is being restored. These pics are of the cue before I started restoring it. It will have Black Lizard on the cue when I'm done. The ringwork at the joint is also on the shafts. Both shafts are 12.8mm+ There full and nice. The cue hit amazing and I believe some of that is due to it being a 57" cue. Old TS logo. 4 box points with 4 veneers , Honey stained nose which will be a little lighter when finished. It will look better when I'm done because I will Lighten it a little and oil it which will richen the color and enhance the configure in the cue. 18.9oz cue. Trades and Offers. Too bad

Just sayin- I only buy Tim's cues that are origional and have him do the work. The only other person I would let refinish a cue for me would be Jerry Rauenzahn. Always best for the cue maker to do his refinish to the cue they make. Keeep it origional it has the old logo and is worth more in origional condition!

Agreed, and this is why I don't want to trade with you Aaron, not to knock the quality of your work, but a cue is worth MUCH more if the work is done by it's original maker...if it truly needs any work at all.
 
the refinishing is why I just pass cues he has for sale automatically. From my casual view it appears that everything from him is going to be non original, so just dismiss it after a quick curiousity look.

I can understand it being worth more in an original state if it's a zamboti or a original Kershenbrock or a Jerry Franklin Etc.. But this cue is a nice cue that had nicks and dings and needs a restore job. We are not building the cues nor changing the structure of the cue. This is lack on knowledge about what goes in to a restore job. I will take 50 Scruggs or what ever and put them up for sale with finish issues. Then I'll take the same 50 cues restored with no issues and they'll do more. Its making it shine again, thats all. Bringing it to a new state. I can guarantee many cues that are redone are better, than when they were built. New technology and perfecting procedure. I can guarantee and I won't name names that myself and Sherbine and others do a better finish than the person who built it. I had a guy send me a brand new cue, unplayed and the finish was not that good. This builder is a very well respected builder and my friend asked me to redo the finish. Now it's right and looks how it should. I can understand your point from collectors stand point and agree with you on the right cue. But your saying that any cue is worth more if the original maker restores it. Non sense. But thats just my IMO and I do respect yours also. I'll post pics of the process. In these pics the structure in no way is compermised. The cue is just brought out and will look fantastic when completed. It will be finished this weekend. Thanx Aaron 815-243-1101:D :D :D :D

What do I know about Scruggs cues. It never matters what the collectable is and that is a collectable cue. Collectors love origional and pay for what they like every time!
Old cues are worth more to collectors in origional condition always.

Well , We will agree to disagree. I do not refinish every cue. Only the ones that need it. When this Scruggs is finished it will be better in my mind. There are buyers that want there cues prestine and don't care as long as it's done right. No big deal. The cue is sold 2 different ways anyway. Thanx Aaron 815-243-1101:D :D :D :D
 
I have a Scruggs cue that Tim built in 2004. I would be VERY surprised if you (or just about anyone!) can do a better finish than he did. If the cue needed refinished, I would send it to Tim. But, then what do I know??
 
If a cue is used for what it was meant to be used for, then does it really matter who does the refinish as long as it is done right???

The cues you own eventually own you...

Tough call, I have seen some cues from some very well respected cue makers that come out with dry finishes or other flawes, generally they will fix these flaws, or take in an older cue of theirs to refinish. Some cue makers still use older finishs that do not cover and hold up as well as new stuff and I know this from painting cars. There are new materials that are garbage as well as old materials that are very good, if you can still find them. I know of a new cue maker that can put on a smoother and better feeling Irish linnen wrap than the majoritiy of other cue makers and I've had him change a few for me on some of my cues because it feels better. I understand some people see it from the view of investment and others see it from that of a player.
 
You are right speedy, but unfortunately, some people don't realize the market value of the cue, whether player or collector is significantly diminished if it has been refinished by other than the maker. Point in fact, look at the Gus on ebay. Its been refinished and wraped by a lesser known cuemaker. Its worth about 40% less, whether bought as player or investment. The price asked for any cue has to reflect the current condition of the cue. Refinishing hurts the value of higher end cues, period. I am sure Aaron does a good job and if I had a lower value cue that needed work I wouldn't hesitate to take him up on his generous offer to Azers. But not my Gina or Searing.

well stated Mike....

i would also rather have a vintage cue (like this TS) in its original finish with some character that shows it was somewhat or well taken care of during its life than having a refinished pristine specimen looking like a closet queen, bought and put up...

cues were meant to be played with after all....
