If you guys can choose between the two cuemakers, who would you choose? I already had a scruggs before and I like it. I want to know how gilberts cues compare to scruggs. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I'd take a scruggs myself. Both of them make a great cue, but the scruggs is never going to lose any value. Andy's may or may not too early to tell.

I have yet to see an Andy Gilbert where I play, but I'm real curious how they hit. My Scruggs is an old sneaky pete "wood-to-wood", but hits fantastic. There are some great Scruggs deals on the net right now - I would strongly consider this one if I hadn't already sated my cue feeding needs: http://www.thecuecorner.com/cuemakers/TimScruggs/003/TimScruggs003.htm

Kind of apples and oranges in terms of cost but for the money I can't see how you could wrong with Andy Gilbert.

Playability/Hit - both are equally good.

Resale Value: Scruggs might get the edge if you are comparing relatively similar cues. Kind of depends on who you are trying to sell to.

Andy Gilbert has built a well deserved reputation for top notch cues. He is not as profilic as Tim Scruggs but his cues are every bit as good in terms of quality.

I have owned several cues from both and regret not still owning them.

I agree with the group

I think Andy is a better value but the resell on Scruggs would be a little better.

I too, have had both. I personally prefer the Gilbert hit, a little stiffer than the Scruggs. You will not go wrong with either cue.

Good Luck

No Offense, but that Scruggs is kind of a Plain Jane for $1,000.

My scruggs was probably about the same price or 1200 brand new, just has the points and a leather wrap, but an extra shaft comes with it. I guess it is personal preference but I especially like how the scruggs is weighted.

I would have to say Gilbert for the money. He makes a great hitting cue for the money. Ive never heard anyone complain about their Gilbert. I havent heard anyone complain about the quality of their Scruggs either but Ive been kind of disappointed with Scruggs since he raised his prices. You would definately get better resale out of a Scruggs but I dont think you would have problem trying to sell either. IMHO you cant go wrong with either, its just a matter of what you are looking for in a cue

None taken. It looked like a good deal to me, but I like the Titlist look and haven't seen many Scruggs cues in that price range.

Either. Both. I'm a big fan of these two.

That being said, if you're contemplating buying a Gilbert while the prices are right, now is the time.

I've shot with both and I like Scruggs' hit just slightly over Gilberts. But the Gilbert had an ivory joint and I think it provided a little bit softer hit. My point is that they hit both a lot better than many cues and you cannot go wrong with either cue. Maybe Gilberts give a better bang for the buck as they aren't so darn expensive as Scruggs cues. You can get a simple 4-pointer Gilbert with veneers for less than a $1k, but for a Scruggs I think you need to pay at least $1k... even $1500.

Well under $1K for a simple Gilbert. That's why I wrote the apples and oranges comment. Andy's cues are probably the best bang for the buck out there.

I agree 100%. Gilbert cues have top notch quality for a very reasonable price. I have a gut feeling Gilbert cues are going to be up in price quite soon. He has built quite an impressive reputation as an excellent cuemaker.

I agree with the resale value. Paid $525 for my Scruggs. Three years ago was offered $900 for it. Turned him down. (It was one of his early cues with no points.)
