scruggs player value question

Im on the lookout for a scruggs player right now. Noticed these two cues on ebay this week, and they seem to be an interesting comp because they are similar and ran at the same time.

Question - Why did the tiger maple with 2 shaft version go for ~70$ less than the other one which had only one shaft. With the shaft cost factored in it is probably like a 30% difference, just trying to understand why? The tiger cue seems to have much better figure. Is it the age of the other one (seller claiming early to mid 80s), or maybe the initials in the butt cap of the tiger cue?

What I am driving at here is neither of these is particularly collectible per say, so if the age of the cue makes a 30% difference in price it must be because of the hit? Do the older scruggs cues hit different? Did Tim get worse at his job as time went on?

well the second one has someone's initials in it which is a problem. since tim is retired, u cant really replace that buttcap so u're forced to keep it there which would reduce the value a bit. plus he said the 2 shafts have a wobble.

The old cue was beautiful.

Blonder than blond. Pretty cost more. Exceptional front.

I thought the Scruggs with one shaft was not as good looking of a cue. Looks to me it has had some work done to it. Shaft and joint collars looked like they were scratched up. Could be wrong, but that is what I saw. Didnt really see anything exceptional about it. The one with the initials in it was a far better looking cue. But like Dank said, 2 shafts with a wobble and someone's initials on it doesnt help its cause. Good luck to you in your search.

Yea, I guess I didn't take the wobble into account.

I thought the tiger/curly maple was like 10x better figure, etc.

Lots to learn - I loose enough money in the pool hall, don't wanna get burned on the cue too :)
