Scruggs weight bolt option

Hello AZers. Can some tell me what kind of weight bolt will screw into a Scruggs butt. I have a big pin Scruggs sneaky and I got an interested buyer but he wants to know what kind of weight bolt it will take. He’s trying to get the weight up to around 190z. I can see that it will accept a pretty long bolt I needed. He’ll need about a 2-2.25 oz weight bolt installed to get it where he wants it and if someone can point me in the right direction, I’d be very grateful.

Thanks!
Paul

Forgive me if I’m not posting in the right place.

I would not add any weight before I sold it, let the buyer do that.

Yeah, I wouldn’t add the weight but I’m trying to give him as much info as I can before a sale happens. That way he knows what his options are for increasing.

It should be a 3/8x16 bolt with a head on it to hold the delrin butt cap on and it accepts the 8/32" capped screw to hold the bumper on. What I don't know is if that bolt has a tapered head and accepts a straight screw driver, or the one that you need a thin walled 9/16" socket for.

Paul,

Placing a 2 oz. or heavier weight bolt in the butt will surely affect the original balance of the cue that Tim
had in mind when he built that SP cue. He respected the significance of the weight relationship between
the cue butt and shaft. In order to increase weight of the cue, Tim would never shove 2 1/4 ozs. of metal
In the butt. He’d find a heavier piece of wood to build the butt and use a weight bolt better suited to ensure
the cue’s balance isn’t tail end heavy. If that’s what the customer wants, then just let him do it but avoid it.

I don't know as much about pool in general, but idon't think Tim payed much attention to selection of woods and over all balance point his normal proceedure was to use a weight bolt to make the cues weigh what was requested

He once told me he would not take orders to get a certain balance point because it was
difficult to change the BPOINT,if you put 2 ounces in the butt it would not change the balance any noticeable amount

he was not the only cue maker who expressed the same ideas to me..

I have never had a cue maker offer me the choice of ballance point, not that I ever asked for it either

what ever the point is I would bet it doesn't mone 1/4 inch with your new bolt

and it will play just like any other 19 ounce sneaky

Just reporting what Tim told me about sneakies and all custom cues

when I got on Az in 2007 people asked about balance point for the first time in my life
and Tim explained it as I did above,he also said it was something a really good player never asked him in his years of cue making.

I asked several players and they laughed at me,Ronnie,Red,Eddie,Ed, and I never thought about it again

In my opinion your customer wants a heavier cue and he will be happy with it

The old-timers were different for sure! Not just pool- most sports. Pool cues, baseball bats, golf equipment, tennis rackets, bowling balls- got to laugh! "Technology" got hold of sports equipment and everyone spent more time looking for and edge instead of learning the games from the inside out! I'm one from the earlier age and - just looking at pool cues- makes me laugh and cry to see guys fork over $2,000+ for a cue and then discard the shafts for something that supposedly makes you a better player instantly. My God, how did Babe Ruth, Arnold Palmer, and Willie Mosconi survive!

i would find a cue maker who can do it
find out the cost
and sell the cue to the buyer as is without you altering the cue
giving him the info you obtained
this way if the deal goes south you havent altered the cue
jmho

Thanks for the all the input guys. I agree, and was never intending on altering the cue myself at all. I’m of the opinion that as soon as the guy picks it up and shoots a few racks with it, he will see all his thoughts about adding weight to this sneaky fade away. I certainly feel the cue has great balance and feel as is. But, if he is set on adding weight, then it will be him that does it, not me.
Again, I appreciate all the comments and experience from you guys!
