I see that the folks at the Metro DC area is having fun with their local Azer pool club, how about the folks on the west coast?

Would anyone in the Seattle WA and Vancouver BC area like to have something like that going on?

It will be meetings held on a regular basic, with members discussing pool cues, playing pool and enjoying each other's company. It is not going to be a place for gambling. It is a non profit organization and there will be a membership fee, which will be used to organize functions, pay for table times, trips to tournaments, invite pros over...etc.

Will anyone be interested?

Thank you.

Richard

Edit: I am not sure about the membership fee. May be we can start by just collecting the share from those who attend, we can certrainly discuss this to come up with something everyone is happy with.

I would propose to meet in Parlor Billiard in the USA side; and Guys and Dolls (it is licenced) and/or Q1 Billiard (it is big with 34 tables, and is very customer friendly, but no licence) in the Vancouver side.

Anyone interested?

Richard,

I would be interested, I live in Mount Vernon, WA which is about the same distance from Vancouver BC as it is from Seattle. PM me if you get a chance.

Are their any administration fees taken out of the member fees?

Wonder Woman is from those parts, I think... I stop into Seattle from time to time. Maybe I'll stop by and win an NorthWest AZB tournament :)

There certainly does seem to be alot of posters on the board from the Seattle and Vancouver area.

Thank you so much. I think we need to see how many people we get, and then we can sort of get a private section in a pool hall or a private room, so we can have some beers, shoot some pools, may be a few guys can bring some nice cues along, listen to some great stories, and just enjoy ourselves.

I have posted about a similiar experience I had before in Taiwan, and they would pay for a few tables at a special rate, players can just play with each other, the rest of the guys would socialize, check out each other's cue, and some of the top pros would even drop by. No gambling, but it was a really nice way to promote and enjoy pool in my opinion.

If you are interested to join, please post what time you think would be the best, and where, and what activity you like to have, so we can arrange to suit everyone's need.

So long as we can have our own aiming system.
Well, we can have a discussion on the Canadian aiming system vs the USA aiming system...:) I am just joking.

But I for one would like to see all these aiming systems being put to work. It would be an eye opener for me.

I dont think there is any need for any administrative fee. Basically, I think we can phone a pool hall, get a special rate, and then we will get together and share our share of the bill when we are done. We can all pay for our own drinks and foods, but if we get together on a regular basis, and we can bring in people from all over to a particular pool hall, I think we can get a better rate and have things set up a certain way to suit our needs.

If we decide to go for dinner for example, we can just share the bills; if we want to invite a pro over, we can get the rate, have a sign up sheet and then just share the expenses among those who join.

People can raffle their cues, they can offer a great price for cue repair, others can show up to sell their cues, pros can come to advertise their pool lessons...it would be a great business opportunity for a lot of people other than just a fun time, and member can benefit one way or another.

If we ever decide to have a newsletter or something, then may be we need to pay the person to do this but I do not like politic and would like to keep this as simple and friendly as possible.

What do you all suggest?

I'm in and I know I can get others to join too. Any night but Thursdays for now for me. How often would we meet? Once a month? Parlor or Uncle Jack's is beautiful too. I bet Umma Gumma, Kerry, Mark Avlon, and a few more posters would join. Even my husband is signed up on AZB, but never posts. (He would be banned after his first couple posts anyway, lol)

Any night is fine with me. I am going away the end of this month to Taiwan when they are having the Amway 9 Ball Championship, I would like to meet before the end of the month if possible.

I would love to check out the Parlor, Danny told me it is a very beautiful place so may be we can have him joining us?

There are some cue makers such as Tice and Jones, would be nice to see their cues.

It is only about an hour to drive to the Parlor from Vancouver, isn't it?

Let's see how many will be joining us and which day will be best.

Linda, thank you for your help in spreading the words.:)

If you are talking about the Parlor in Bellevue it is about an hour from Mount Vernon and it about an hour and a half from MV to Vancouver. Cue maker Dave Jones is registered at AZB and has posted at least once, he may be interested. I may see him Saturday and will ask. I had talked via PM's, in the past, with other AZB'ers in the area. There definitely is an interest in forming a group or having tournaments. I have also talked with the owner of Riverside Billiards and blues and he said he would give a great rate. Any night of the week would be fine for me. As a suggestion, we could meet in small groups in several different pool rooms weekly and once a month have a tournament where everyone gets together.

I know Ride with the Wind, and a couple of lurkers in my area north of Seattle that I am sure would be interested. I will talk to them if I see them.

Danny may be interested. Lisa (ridewiththewind) may also. I can also ask Dave Tice, and Dave Jones. We could circulate a flyer. I will also ask around at the tournaments.

The end of the month is not really good for me - 21-23 I will be in Montana, and then fly out that Sat. to Atlanta, straight to Reno, straight to Portland, then someone is going to pick me up at the airport and drive to Lincoln City for BCA Regionals - team. So that leaves only the 20th or 24th, but majority rules and I can always catch the next meeting.

Linda

I may be interested as well. Unfortunately, I am going into womens league playoffs near the end of this month, and have one, maybe two playoff matches beginning in March for 9 Ball. Keep us updated. :)

Hey howdy!

This thread and some good-natured ribbing from Lunchmoney have brought me up from lurkdom to join the fray.

I would love to meet some local AZBers in the range of venues already noted.

So, Richard, if you're making a list, put me on it.

I am in as well. I live in Woodinville, play all over Seattle, primarily on the eastside.

I think a monthly get togther would be fun for starters.

I have been very busy with my cue buiness because I need to go to the Amway 9 Ball Championship in Taiwan on 27 Feb and then to Valley Forge on 15 March.

I think the best way to do it is to have a list and the preferred time and place; however, I have only received two PM about this so far. Linda said she will talk to some people but she has not posted anything yet.

Any suggestion?

To get things rolling, Iwould propose a first meeting on Monday March 20th. I talked with David Goodenbour, the owner of Riverside Billiards and Blues, and he said that he would give us a good rate. There are 12 9-foot tables here and room to sit and have a meeting. There isn't any alcohol served here though. David said that if things are slow he will lock the doors and let us have the room which means you can have a beer and smoke and a flat rate for the table time. If you are interested send me a PM. The room is in Mount Vernon, about an equal distance between Seattle and Vancouver.

You have a good point Richard, that date was just a starting point to get things rolling. I suggested that day because it is typically a slow day here in the pool room. An alternative would be to show up on a Saturday or Sunday morning around 10:00am, the doors would be locked and we would have the place to ourselves until the room opens at 2:00pm for a flat rate of $10.00 per person. The room owner is very willing to help us out any way he can. I would like to see this thing take off.

For anyone who is not familiar with Riverside Billiards and Blues, I would just like to say that I find the place very inviting, relaxed and friendly. It has a 'homey' feel to it, not snooty or high-falootin' at all. The lighting is pretty good, and you don't feel like your in some dark, seedy poolhall. There are some big soft comfy couches and the favored music played on the stereo is of the blues variety, which is played at a reasonable and comfortable decibel level, so as to not assault the senses.

I don't get there as often as I like, as I have a table here at home...but have enjoyed myself everytime I have been there. And I am kinda picky as to where I like to play.
