how much did you get cheated for? I hope its not a big amount. I never would do a transaction across sea. Just don't feel good with all the scams thats running out there.

he is not saying he got cheated.. he is saying a ebay user sent him that message saying he ripped him off.. and of course by clicking the link you are sending the scamming scumbag your information...

so dont believe its legit for one second..

another spoof

I know this is not a spoof with ebay. But I thought I might share this one since I know alot of people are going to hotels for tourneys and whatever.

One time, I had just checked in the hotel and when I got to the room not 5 mins later the room phone rang. It was a guy saying that it was the front desk and the computers went down. So my credit card didn't go through and they would have to run it again. For my conveince, he would just take my info over the phone. Well I smelled something fishy. I told him no, I would come back down and try it again. He tried to give me some BS like he was doing me a favor. So again I told him I would come down. We hung up. I went down to the front desk and asked the lady about the guy calling. And she said, " Oh their up to their scam again". She said that they know hotels have a privacy law and the calls can't be traced. So If you ever get a call like that, just hang up and go to the front desk.

If it was something serious...

If it was something serious...just think to your self before clicking on any link, "do I know the source", "can I trust the source", what you can do also is hover over the link with your mouse and it will tell you the real link it will go to, sometimes it looks like an ebay, paypal or bank address but if you hover over it, it is some scums weblink that is disguised. There are a lot of phucks out there that make the world an unhappy and unsafe place...it doesnt matter if they are reported because it is never-ending, it has to be handled top-down from the national server level, right now nothing is being done, just putting out the small fires when people get their identity stolen....I cant rant anymore!
 
I get those from time to time...and ones requesting a total of something I've allegedly sold them...I forward all of it to spoof@ebay.com

I do the same with paypal scams..

I would have assumed it was authentic being that you mentioned you were only in the room for 5 minutes.

I got one

I got one sent thru eBay, very similiar to the one that started this thread. Mine was to the effect:

Hi. I just sent u the $$ for the laptop I won from u. I can't wait to get it. Please reply and tell me more about it. It gave a real ebay auction #, but I was not the seller. The buyer was from the UK. In order to reply u had to click on the oval ebay emblem which would then require u to give your ebay name and password. I went into ebay on my own to check the auction number. When I saw that someone else was the seller, I reported the email to ebay at Spoof@ebay.com

The easy way to get rid of them would be to tell them you are going to hang up and call them right back at the front desk, or tell them you paid cash. A more mischievious way would be to tell them you work in federal law enforcement and use a government credit card, see how fast they hang up.

if there is interest here I will post these when I see them. I see a LOT of them, some are damn near perfect. Short solution, DONT CLICK ON THE LINK. AND, if you get a spoof email allegedly from ebay or paypal, forward it to either spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com and let them chase the website. Most banks have provisions for this also.

It is a waste of time to bother reporting them, they cannot trace them down because they use proxy emails and stolen trojan'd email accounts...so just delete them and expect to get more if your email addy is already out there.
