Setup of tip centralizer

Guerra Cues

I build one cue at a time

Hello folks,
For the users of the tip centralizer, I am in need of some help... I have been using it for quite a while but never figured out how to adjust it so the tip is dead nuts center on the shaft. Can any of you explain how to adjust it?
Thanks!

I got these pieces. Are there any instructions on setting it up?

Just tried the video link Olaf sent me and they’re private again. And shit time flies, that was 9 years ago now. If Olaf appears, he might be able to get it sorted out. I just don’t have the time now to explain it.

I have never seen one in person, but it looks to me like the main piece has 4 set screws that adjust the tip holder in any direction like a four jaw chuck works. If that other black piece is a snug fit into the main piece? Then that would go into the headstock and you would use the 4 set screws to center the tailstock held main piece to it. I see he has a level indicator on the side so you will know you are mounting it the same way every time. But like I said I have never seen one in person and am just making a guess. It really looks like a well made item.

You are about right. I know already how to set it up. Thanks Chris!

Are those still being sold some where? Does it work as good as it looks?

Chris,
I haven't heard from Olaf if he has any intentions of doing it again. It is by far the best tip centering tool I have ever used. Olaf made such a great job with this tool. I hope he can reconsider manufacturing this tip-centering tool again.

Honest question, since I have to trim the outer diameter down to be flush with the ferrule and also a bit off the tip for shaping anyway, what benefit does something like this offer vs centering via eyeballing/using the concave live center ? Thanks

Much better than a concave live center, there is no comparison.
It helps for example with a tip that might have fell off the cue and this tool centers it exactly on the dot.

Take a piece 3/4 inch delrin and drill a 5/16 hole. Bore an end in it that fits tip. Use 5/16 reamer in tailstock... put glue on tip and insert into delrin.. slide delrin with tip onto reamer and move tip onto ferrule. Tighten tailstock and crank a bit of pressure. Voila.

The closer the tip is to center, the less lateral pressure(interrupted cut is what I'm getting at..meaning the cutter is hitting the proud part of the tip like a hammer) is applied while trimming...which is a good thing. If someone's tip has fallen off I'd refer them to the person who installed it, not try and fix it..

Makes sense, thanks
