Shady Business Practices Need An Opinion?

This post reminds me of a situation I encountered a couple of years ago. After agreeing to sell a couple of cues for a specific price, I met a person in Maine ( who said he was a Lawyer) to complete the deal. He started to inspect the cues and began to pick out minor imperfections in the cues, some imagined. His next tactic was to try and reduce the agreed upon price. I refused to lower the price and after going back and forth several times we both left without making a deal.

Some points of interest:

I had the feeling the ?lawyer? was trying to intimidate me into selling the cues at a lower price. I frequently deal with lawyers in my job and have become accustomed to the tactic.

While the condition of the cues was not perfect, this was fully disclosed before meeting. Actually, I tend to describe the condition weighting the negatives to be on the safe side.

I was accused of wasting his time and as a result he would never do a deal with me.

Who gives a s?, I would never do a deal with him either!

Sound familiar?

THAT STORY SOUNDS REALLY FAMILIAR TO SEVERAL OTHERS THAT I'VE HEARD. I WONDER WHY?

well now that i have been insulted by mike gartland im going to take this personal. alot of guys here on az know me i consider myself a nice guy but not one to tick off. so if the tone of my voice and my "joisy accent" represents dishonesty that dumfounds me. how in the hell can i falsely describe a cue when it is in the others persons hand. when he brings up a matter of 3 years ago in which i sent him some garbage cues is a desperation move in my eyes. first off they werent mine i was doing a friend a favor. and how is it dishonest of me if i am always willing to ship my cues first for inspection. i always ship my cues express mail insured if he didnt want to pay return shipping to me thats fine let me know and ill paypal you $35 to get my cues back. the only person it effects is me with shipping charges big whoop. ill even agree with others when they say that mike is professional in the way he sells cues and they are always as described. selling is the easy part with mike from what i hear. he gets a cue cheap and sells it real quick to make a quick few hundred bucks. and the cue is still priced pretty good. well people how do you think he is able to offer such good prices. he haggles and nit picks on anything he can like TIPS lol. az isnt a soup kitchen no one is going to get anything for free. im not a cue dealer in any sense but i do come across some nice cues from time to time and place them for sale here on az. i also like to try different cues like alot of others here. i have had no problems with anything i have SOLD either. i offer a money back guarantee on anything if your not happy. no questions asked. now to bring a happy ending here i have received my items back from mike. his cue was shipped today express mail insured and he will have it tomorrow by 3pm. after what i read here it pains me that i shipped out his cue now. i should have said we had a deal and what is done is done and shipped back my piece of crap jmw with the scratch and dull tips which also happens to be one of the best cues ive had in my hands. but im an honest and sincere guy who tries to make people happy and satisfied. anyway this mess is now over with.

and just one more thing i am not a security guard im a corrections officer a sgt to be specific. i am however head of security at the super billiards expo. so if your there look me up. im a stocky dude with the "joisy accent" watch your wallets though im dishonest you will be able to tell by my voice lol.

so he isnt a lawyer??????????? damn one of my all time favorite hobbies is bench pressing lawyers and launching them over diamond bar boxes at the expo. no x mas for me this year lol.

disclaimer: this is not a terroristic threat or harassment just a joke. i dont need REAL lawyers sending me any legal paper work.

Another true story

He offered to buy a Tascarella Vinniebarbarooch was selling. BTW the cue was either new or hit just a couple of times(so there were no problems with it). However he wanted to pay by paypal because he said he needed the cue by the weekend. Troy asked me what he should do. I said under no ciircumstances should you ship the cue to him without a wire into your account and a day to make sure he doesnt retract it or try and hit you for a lesser price after he "inspects" and finds out the cue is to straight to play with or something like that. Mike decided not to buy the cue if he couldn't pay with paypal. HMMMMM kind of makes you wonder? Plenty of more stories where that came from.

You guys crack me up; you're like a couple of chicks. I don't think either of the two parties are dishonest, just a difference of rating perception. I collect a wide variety of "stuff" and come by this "perception difference thing" all the time. It's no big deal, just a difference of opinion.

I have had a few deals with Mike and one involved me sending him a cue. We didn't have any problems and Mike was a pleasure to deal with. In fact, one time I purchased a cue from Mike that had a warped shaft (not bad, but still warped). Like Mike, I'm somewhat anal about my cues so I called Mike up to voice my displeasure. I asked Mike to pay for a new shaft from the cue maker (probably $250 - $300). Mike agreed to do so without hesitation, he also offered my money back if I wished.

Mike is not a crook (although he really is a lawyer). Sorry about the lawyer joke Mike.

Mike's name turned up. Mike was given a "BV" rating (see below).

BV? Peer Review Rating ? The BV is an excellent rating for a lawyer with more experience. This is the maximum rating a lawyer can receive who has been admitted to the bar from 5-9 years.

I have just had a similar experience with BEST KITES. we were to ship our cues at the same time. After several excuses he sent the cue 3 hours after he received mine. He left positive feedback, then I started to get calls and messages. He played with the cue put it on a lathe (to clean)???
Then he calls me and states the cue is unplayable. And he wants me to send him 125.00 towards a new shaft. Then today he called UPS and had the cue intercepted and returned to him. I am rather new to AZ I hope this is not the norm!!

Oh The Quality

Nevermind.. I don't need any drama... I'll just keep it to myself as I should have to begin with and not deal with him..
