Are you sure that's Ivory?I recently worked on a shaft, that was literally impossible to get the chalk out of, especially in the ivory ferrule. I'm open to suggestions, i tried the magic eraser with a little alcohol it took some out of the shaft but none from the ivory
That blue is most likely super glue from a tip installation. Acetone will take it off, but is not good for the ivory. Didi Seven does a great job cleaning a shaft. Roger PettitI'm pretty sure my question was mainly concerning the filthy shaft.
The ferrule was only blue at the base of the tip I did see a lot of grain on one side of the ferrule however it still could have been something else
^^ This is good advice. That blue is most likely super glue from a tip installation. Acetone will take it off, but is not good for the ivory. Didi Seven does a great job cleaning a shaft. Roger Pettit
I used magic eraser rubbing alcoholTry using the eraser on a pencil on the ferrule.
My guess that shaft was abused. I'm still not sure why the alcohol and eraser don't clean the ferrule maybe along the same lines. Of abuse from the owner. Sandpaper no sealer etcDenatured alcohol applied with a magic eraser, with the grain works the best in my efforts. If that doesn't get the high majority of it the shaft was probably never sealed properly,,,,,,, or someone has used sand paper on it alot to keep it smooth, which is a terrible idea. If that is the case more sandpaper is the only answer.
This. ^^^Renaissance wax.
None, you don't use a wax to clean. A good waxing done after cleaning and proper sealing helps prevent needing a good cleaning again. What would be a good wax to use after cleaning?
