Shaft cleaning

I bet the title caught your attention. On a serious note what is the best way to keep your cue shaft clean? Abuddy of mine told me to take a damp cloth and clean it. That kinda scares me when it is a 200.00 shaft.

Use rubbing alchol to open the poors on the cue to get dirt out then use a micro fiber cloth the burnish the wood. Clean as a whistle and smooth as glass.
Some people use pledge to seal the shaft.
I have been doing this for years and no damage on my $1100 cue

I've nominated myself as the DAFS guy today. ;)

These are the steps I use to get a clean smooth shaft.

1. Use 2000 grit sandpaper on the shaft. This opens the pores on the wood
making easier to clean.
2. Rub the shaft down with Magic Eraser and denatured alcohol.
3. Use 2000 grit sandpaper again. The wood grain will be raised from cleaning
this helps the shaft to get smooth again.
4. Apply SlipStic. Its a condtioner and works really well. I usually let this set
about 15 minutes before I do the next step.
5. Use a piece of leather and burnish the shaft.

This works really well for me.

Q logic

Qlogic has burnishing pads, shaft cleaner, and conditioner. This stuff works great. The cleaner is a powder that you get a towel damp and sprinkle it on there and it cleans deep into the wood. Follow with the burnishing pads, then the conditioner and its unreal how slick the cue gets. I like the q silk really well also.

if you want to throw $10 away, get smart wipes.

they're a little too small for my taste, but they leave my ass in good shape. i got 4 more squares to flush.

wont alcohol hurt the wood ? if some cuemakers could comment on that i would love to know..cause if it doesnt i will give it a try

The cue maker I use says lighter fluid does it better then anything, what do all think of that. I haven't tried it, sounds risky to me. But that is what he says.

Lighter fluid scares me because I am a smoker. My luck I would catch my stick on fire. I am really interested in the alcohol idea. Does anyone know if this works.

I just wipe my shaft down gently with one of those green scotchbrite pads. If I don't have one of those I work a dollar bill over it. Gets it nice and smooth. Not necessarily clean, but smooth. Learned the dollar bill trick from Mizerak's book.

I have used a dollar bill before it does smooth one down pretty good. Some idiot told me to use baby oit at the bar last nite. I told him I would buy it if he would use it on his and he did. Another wasted shaft.

No alcohol wont hurt the shaft wood. Denatured alcohol will evaporate quickly, because it contains less then 10% water.

That's it

That's the way to go.

2.5 Rub with lighter fluid on a paper towel to get rid of the Magic Eraser's particles. Lighter fluid won't raise the grain (more than it already is).
