These are all sold...Thanks
These are nice Michigan, hard maple dowels if you are not concerned with having a super high GR count. Pictures say it best.....They're all 99% straight grained with very
little run off if any. Absolute minimal sugar and/or dark spots, if any, on the dowels. These are 29-7/8" long already centered and ready for turning. They have one straight taper cut on them going down from approx .990 to .900 on the business end. I just ran a cut on them to clean them up and get them headed in the right direction. All the prep work is done.......just put them between centers and cut them to your taper. The second group is a little whiter in color than the first group but both are very good groups for what I'll call a grade B type of shaft. The only reason they don't make the grade A is ring count. I don't use stabilizers on my shaft wood and these have not been treated.
There may still be some flat spots that have not gone round yet. The dark spots you see are burn marks from the doweling blades and are surface only. These are still huge in terms of shaft wood size and should all turn into playable shafts.
Of course I can't guarantee that won't move or warp..we all know that is out of our control for the most part. I can say this...I have processed hundreds of these dowels into shafts for my cues and get very minimal movement in them. But occasionally one or two won't make it out of 100. They were stress relieved in the kiln schedule.
