Why dont most cue makes have the extended joint end.... like the old predator BK shafts had and so does the richard harris shaft has.... the joint end overlaps the butt joint, are there any cue makers who makes these types of joint... whats the advantage/dissadvantage of them, i feel it stays more sold.....

Thanks

piloted joint

I believe what you are talking about is a "piloted joint". Some cue makers use a that type of joint.:)

Vijesh...Richard Harris of Bluegrass fame uses a flat face joint...like the j/b that I sent you. Are you talking about a piloted joint where the shaft has a brass insert sticking out that sinks into the butt joint? Like a Schon or Joss? Explain a little more clearly and then maybe we can correctly answer your question.:)

Sorry you are right richard harris has a flat end, Its not the pioleted end that I am talking about, its like an extention of the shaft, not the pin.... The old break cue predator had it i guess its something like this " D) " assuming D id the butt and ) is the shaft joint end. I will take piks of it to give you a clearer picture.

I think I know I don't know.

I think I know what you are talking about. It's a concave face on the shaft and a convex face on the Butt. I'm not sure I have ever seen a cue with that setup. I know a lot of metal workers that use a simular system for matching surfaces. But I do not know any cue makers who do. I have also known machinist who used a very slight concave on one face a flat face on the other. That works with metal but I don't think it would do for cues.:)

You just described Mike Lambros "Ultra" joint. Wood to wood...except machined to fit like 2 bowls stacked together.;)

But isn't it a tapered cone? Taped not rounded?:) Or maybe not!

yuppppp exactly..... so why dont ppl use that ...... if i am not mistaken the ol predator bk cues also had then right.....

Pred uses a brass insert...not a concave face like Lambros. Its personal preference...there are many fine cues with brass inserts. I just prefer the feel & hit of the big pin, flat face SW style, with no brass in my shafts...to me it gives more feel & a quieter hit. But like pistols or vehicles....everyone will have an opinion as to what they like best & why.;)
