Shaft question

Can you tell me why a player would want to play with a thinner shaft vs a thicker shaft?

I have always played with the thinner shaft and just got a new cue that comes standard with a thicker shaft. What differences if any should I see?

No this is not a personal question...I swear it's about my pool cue. :D:D

You probably won't "see" any differences, but the hit will most likely "feel" stiffer.

I believe a shaft should fit the player's bridge and be comfortable. This does far more for playability than any difference in stiffness or tip end mass. Would you run a marathon with shoes two sizes too small or big? Technically, it could be done, but why? A great pair of shoes the wrong size are still worse than a junk pair of shoes that fit perfect. No different with cue shafts, IMO.

Thicker shafts generally tend to give you more contact surface and stiffer hits while thinner shafts ends up with less weight less contact area and are more whippy which requires more controlled speed and aim of the cue because it gives more deflection.

A smaller tip allows for a rounder contour to the tip which gives an impact point closer to the center of the tip, through which most people aim. That would give more spin for a perceived less eccentric hit on the cue ball. Conversely, it would also make it more difficult to hit a perfect center ball.
