Buy a new cue.
In the first week most of the threads break and come out of the shaft.
Send in for repair, and it seems like the fix will be to drill out he old threads plug and re tap. Does that sound like an acceptable fix to you guys? Or because my cue is new I should get a new shaft?
Thank you.

Questions like this can be tough. Did you cross thread the shaft putting the cue together? Honestly....who's to know. That's the tough part. And more importantly for me. I can't answer for the original Cue maker nor do I really want to judge him.

No cross thread. When I brought it back to the dealer he called the manufacturer for me. He mentioned how this happened to another shaft. After sending in the cue for repair I called the manufacturer to make sure it got there ok and all my paperwork was in order.and asked what hey would do and that's when I got he details for the fix.
Is that a good fix. I would think the shaft would play different.

It is a good repair and yes, plugging the shaft, might make it play different.

If you've only had it less than a week chances are you won't notice whether it plays "different" or not.

I hope it doesn't. It's a LD shaft, so it's glued already. I would imagine if it was done well you wouldn't loose feel.

The plug will probably be better than the original as the thread should be cut into one piece of wood. I would not worry about the fix and enjoy the shaft when it is returned.

That's a good point, thank you. When I took it apart to put it away, some pieces of thread fell out and some were in the threads of the pin. The threads came off in pieces, like they were sheared off. The other half of the threads in the bottom looked OK. Is it because the sections of the shaft were glued together and the pitch of the first half inch or so of threads were bad,

Possibly... could be a sign that the glue had failed for the laminations, or that area was starved of glue...
