Shaft sealer? where to buy?

I used a woodturning sealer called Turner's Magic for years. The friction from burnishing the wood with leather or whatever and letting it get warm dries it.

The stuff I use now is WATER clear when applied, but looks like breast milk in the bottle,LOL. I start at the tip end,and make 3 passes.

By the time I pull that next Viva off the roll,it's totally dry. I take a couple of swipes with fresh 1000 to knock off high spots in the sealer, then buff it and wax.

I'm quite fond of giving it a final inspection and handing it back to the customer and see their facial expression change . Tommy D.
Sorry did not catch the name of what you are using???

I bought a qt of Bullseye Seal Coat Universal Sanding Sealer today from Kingspor Wood working.

I think shellac is the worst thing you can use on a shaft. It yellows, is sticky and does not produce the glide effect (too much resistance) we need to stroke a shaft. I tried everything imaginable and shellac for me is at the very bottom of the list. In fact, I removed it from the list as it is just not an option.

After 50+ years sealing shafts and 20 years refinishing furniture I have ended up using shellac. Zinsser makes a product called Seal Coat, universal wax free sealer it is available at Lowes. Apply it to a spinning shaft with a folded paper towel let dry , take some #2 steel wool dipped in paste wax, apply to the spinning shaft, let dry, sand qith 1299 grit and bvuff out with a leather pad. II've beeen through mostst everything else[/I]

Paul speaks the truth.
Apparently he was wearing gloves at the time he typed his post but...Lol....he's correct.
Paul has shared this tip many times here and I've tried it.
I was using what I thought was a really good sealer and it was.
Paul's suggestion of Zinser Bullseye Universal is about a 1/2 click better.

Actually I'm trying to type with a 1/2" shortened index finger, permanently numb left hand fingers, and rapidly oncoming old age.

Paul,

Please accept my sincerest apology.
I had no way of knowing and it was certainly not my intent to poke fun at a physical condition.
I'll turn 66 in March and parts of my body have been going numb for years now.
This getting old is no where near as much fun as I thought it would be.
Again, my apologies.

KJ
