Shaft suggestions

Hey

Looking to see if anyone has recommendations on any stiff hitting high energy transfer shafts that aren't carbon fiber.
I would like it to be somewhat lower deflection wise as well.

I know that the new carbon fiber shafts are billed as just what I'm looking for but I don't really care for cf, at least on the exterior sruface of the shaft.

Thanks

I got a Jacoby Kielwood shaft a few months back that is what you are asking for. I have their Ultra shafts also and two versions of the Rhino shafts for my Jacobys. They definitely have a crisper hit and seem to be high energy.
The Kielwood shaft was too light for me, about 3.55 oz, so I installed a 5/16" pin of apx .3 oz just in front of where the butt pin screws in. I also changed the tip to a Ultraskin black med, and tapered it down from the 12.75 mm it came to 12.5mm to match my Ultra and Rhino shafts. I really like that Kielwood shaft.

Thanks, how's the deflection on it?

I'm not a good judge on that, but I shoot the Kielwood and both Rhinos the same without adjusting. It's a light shaft in the front end, and I did take it down to 12.5mm but that's not a big reduction. They also offer a 11.8mm. That 3.55 oz for it without any weight added was for a 30" shaft so almost a half oz lighter than a standard wood shaft. The wood sems really hard and has a great finish. They also have a light weight ferrule on the front end. There may be better Kielwood shafts out there, but this is the one I tried as I bought a cue at their booth and was able to swap out the stock ultra shaft for the Kielwood one. They are somewhat local to me and had to send me the shaft as they didn't have a 30" version at the show.

Imo, carbon is the only choice.

Lighten up, Francis. I got reasons...and play with wood, mostly.

The fact that carbon won't change shape EVER negates the fact that it is a funny color.

I'd suggest a carbon core shaft. Best of both worlds, imo. Wood outer would still be subject to dings though, another think you'll never need to worry about with full carbon.

All that said, I am using Longoni's s-30 shaft, all wood, spliced maple and hornbeam. It is a 3c shaft and unsure if a pool version is available.

That shaft feels great and has lots of power.

Ooooh s30 DOES come in pool taperS

CF rules the roost when it comes to energy transfer and low-def. In wood you might try the Pred. Vantage. Really good power and low-d.

If you can tolerate high stiffness, the Mezz alpha shafts are about as stiff as it gets. I think they are stock at 12.8mm. They are not the lowest deflection shafts in the Mezz line. Their Wavy thread should fit most Radial pinned butts.

No on the pins. They are not a direct/easy fit on Radial. They have two, the orig. and the Wavy2 and neither is a good fit on a 'real' Radial pin. Another shaft is the J.Flowers SMO wood. It has a carbon core, never seen/hit one but i've heard a lot of good about them. Pred has the Centro out also. It has a cf core as well.

The Becue Prime II 12.0 shaft feels like a wood shaft that transfers power like a CF shaft, my other CF shafts were stiffer and I didn't feel any feedback, this shaft has flex and feedback like a wood shaft, super long taper, I love this shaft.

Hmmm....well my WX Alpha shaft fits nicely on several radial butts which are the real deal.

I do know radial shafts will not fit on Mezz's wavy thread.

I know the new W2 shafts for sure won't fit, that pin has a smaller minor. W1shaft might fit but no go on the W2. I only tried one Wavy on a radial and it wouldn't stay tight for two shots.

@dendweller
Mezz Wx900 hits pretty stiff, its a minor step below in energy transfer compared to standard cf shafts.
The Wx900 reminds me of a Z3 , but the Wx900 has more feel, alhough it seems slightly more deflective than the Z3.

I'm a fan of Mike Gulyassy cues and shafts , I think they hit a ball as good if not better than most .
I'd give him a call so the information you get is correct and straight from him .

I also agree with this Mike Gulyassy has the best shafts, also the best butts.

But I'll give you another recommendation but its very hard to find these I think, cause theyre old.

I'm personally a big fan of Universal cues and back in the days they worked with Bill Stroud on a new tech wooden shaft that has an adapter, this shaft called low LD Universal shaft, I think thats the name. It hits like magic just sayin'.

I personally was playing with this shaft for at least 10-12 yrs until I've switched to CF which is a superior shaft in every department, but you don't want a CF...ill just state it since I've loved Universal shaft i've switched to their new Nova CF shaft and man its a bomb and I've tried every cf shaft out there...I might do a review about this Nova bomb because man I'm literally a different player with it...ive been not missing for 4-5 racks if all balls open its crazy.
