Shaft Tapers: Measurements of Standard and Why

Recently I have become very interested in shaft tapers and how they affect the playing characteristics of the cue. I have read all of the threads here I think, but they all cover much the same ground and only scratch the surface of the topic.

Interestingly, the cuemaker interviews at Recollection are some of the most illuminating on shaft tapers as the cuemakers go into their standard taper including measurements and why they went with that particular design.

Obviously some cuemakers offer different options, but I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where cuemakers discuss their shaft taper, what its type and measurements are and why they feel that taper works best for their cues.

Good luck, probably have a better chance of them posting their social security numbers.

If you do a search on this site you will find some numbers. Like most things it takes is a little time. :)

I have been looking. No big deal if cuemakers what to keep it secret. I get it. I thought with the interviews on Recollection maybe taper specs were not that closely guarded.

Howdy,

Before you get too far down this rabbit-hole you're contemplating,
you should understand that no two pcs. of wood are exactly the same.
Numbers that you apply to one of the pcs. may not have the same
values or results when applied to another pc. Sad but true.
There are no closely guarded secret numbers for shaft tapers.
To believe otherwise is the equivalent of chasing unicorns.
