OK, here we go. I was fortunate enough to come by this "fixer-upper" for five bucks. The wrap needs pressed badly, joint collar needs polished, and the forearm needs refinished.

This is the joint ring:

Edit: I am also looking for a Viking shaft with non-quick release in the same thread piloted with this ring-work (white dashes):

I want to find a cheap or trade or free or something shaft. Might be something sitting in your closet from a cheap cue you no longer have. What I want is to match the joint ring and insert. The joint ring is a maple dashed ring in black phenolic. It's a 5/16-18 flat face Viking quick release. I would be fine with a piloted one, I could just face it off. I would be fine with a non-quick release, I would just drill it out. I am fine with a "taper roll".

What I hope to find is the right joint ring and insert thread on a maple shaft that is 29 inches and something not too skinny. Closer to 13mm would be better, 13mm would be stellar. Also, the joint is 0.838 at the collar so closest to that would be best, 0.040 shouldn't be too hard to find I would think.

Many cheap import cues like Mizerak Dove cues, Cobras, Imperial, Crystal Leisure, and others sometimes used such a ring and thread. They have plastic rings but I am OK with that. If I find one with actual phenolic linen I would be totally geeked.

If you have an actual proper Viking shaft or other better shaft for this that you want to unload please talk to me. Maybe we can work something out, but I won't be dumping a bunch of money into this cue. I just want to make it play reasonably.

Bad ferrule? Fine. Filthy dirty? Fine. Not afraid to work on it.

Let me know what you can come up with!

The Only Bump

This will be my only bump. :) Don't want to get in the way of "normal" trade here.

Things I might trade when I talk about trade would be billiard related items of course, but I also collect knives, firearms, watches, tools, pens, and I have a fair amount of computer related stuff, like commercial Cisco routers and stuff. If it's for cheap I have cash too.

What would I think of trading for a low end fixer-upper shaft sitting in your closet?

Well, I can think of things like a collectible pair of Craftsman slip joint pliers made between 1949 and 1958. Model 4507. They have side cutters, which is unusual in a slip joint. They are in great shape. They look like this:

And of course we could talk about other things like a Camillus automatic Airborne Ranger knife like this:

Or a Gerber Mark I boot knife that looks like this:

Maybe gold pens turn your crank, like a 1910-1926 Parker #49:

I have excellent excellent examples of all these and more, but I just linked to some pics on the internet, these are not pics of my actual items. They are presented in increasing order of value. The pen I would trade for a cue, not a shaft. The Gerber for a decent non-LS/ non-laminated shaft, and the Camillus for a decent shaft as well. The pliers? I would say they might be a reasonable trade for the kind of shaft I was looking for....but if you have a better shaft I have better stuff to trade.

Just giving it a shot and let's see what happens. I won't bump this thread anymore after this. I'll just keep combing the flea markets, garage sales, and online until I come up with something. If I need to I'll get the ring-work done to match in the end, but I would like to give finding it a shot.

To give you an idea of values, The Camillus would be about $75.00 in a quick sale, $100 if I wanted to wait, and up to $200 in a strong market....which we are not in.

What are things worth? Whatever people will pay I guess. I have a feeling some of you guys are into some of the same things I am, so maybe there is a trade to be made? I have never actually been into barter. I only ever made one trade, a collectible Swiss watch (LeJour 17 jewel pilot's watch vintage 1982) for a rifle, a lesser watch, and couple other small things. I ended up getting the watch back from the widow of my friend. He killed himself later that year. That was fifteen years ago. I have been a little hesitant about trades, brings back hard memories. But I would like to maybe give it a try again.

Thanks. :)

shafts

Not interested in any of those items but I will look around...I probably have at least the ring work if not shafts . :)

Hey thanks!

Let me know if anything turns up. :)

On another good note, it seems I generated interest in some other items, I got some PMs!
