Hey guys,
First, let me thank you in advance for the help. Here's my problem:

I just bought a new Schon shaft in 12.5mm and the shaft is a hair wider than the ferrule. Is there anything I can do to get them even on my own, or should the shaft go to Schon, or another cuemaker? I'm probably the only one that would notice, and to most it's probably not a big deal, but I have clinical OCD and will be bothered until it's fixed. Thanks, Jeremy

wood usually sands faster rate then ferrule material. it just swelled . and repaid man can sand it down in the lathe and it will be ok. easy fix

Another suggestion would be to have the ferrule changed to match the shaft since it is already at 12.50. Depends on where you want your shaft to be...the same or thinner.

If Your not concerned with keeping the current diameter of your shaft intact, then It's simple and quick, just a matter of sanding the wood flush with the ferrule resealing and polishing. If however you want to keep the current diameter, then a ferrule change is in order. I guess It really depends on how much higher the the wood is over the ferrule, as to which way You should go.

As someone mentioned- wood sands at a faster rate then most ferrule material. That's not a huge problem to sand flush in your case, should be easy for most people, but when It's the opposite way around, and the ferrule is larger, It can be alittle more complicated, because since the wood sands at a faster rate If not done properly, It can actually make the problem worse.

How your situation can sometimes happen, Is some ferrule material, when sanded and polished, will expand with heat, so if the ferrule was heated up and expanded before It was sanded flush with the wood, It may have been flush at the time, but after the ferrule has cooled down, It can shrink a hair and leave the wood higher then the ferrule. I see this on alot of new shafts, and not a big deal to fix, but one needs to be aware of this when replacing a ferrule too or the same thing could happen.

I'm sure most people on here could flush this in for you though.

Why?

After the exchange between Carter and his customer, Standbykid, I'm scratching my head as to why this offer was made?!

I assumed you read the thread and your advances confused me. Although I have never seen anything negative about you, I hope you can see how that looked. Now that you explained it, I can see your intentions were admirable.
