shaft with flat faced joint INTO butt with piloted joint

Hi,

I want to know can a flat faced shaft joint be screwed into a butt with a piloted joint? (obviously the pin being the same on both)

I would think it will screw alright, but what about the hole left between them?
will it make some kind of hollow sound or even affect how the cue plays...

Thanks

I have made shafts with a flat face for butts like that and it worked just fine. If you look closely at a piloted joint the pilot doesn't actually touch anything. I believe it is supposed to but on the few I have done, it did not.

I have done this and my advice is don't over tighten them. I have seen the insert fail and get sucked down into the pilot.

Predators barely have any pilot on their shafts and I haven't found that it effects the sound or playability.
