How else do you explain the sudden improvement in his game? How do you explain Efren being master of the table well into his fifties? Maybe we should appoint Grady to investigate this. It could be called "The Matthews Report.":D

Seriously thow this is the one problem the world of pool does not have.

Couldn't resist it.;)

Sorry friend, but I have to disagree with you on this one. There is MUCH abuse of 'steer-roids' in pool!

Your probably right. Three balls on the break is just not possible without it.

What's the difference in Baseball players taking steroids and pool player taking uppers and downers?

Nothing... Everyone is always looking for an edge at everything they do, if they are not than they will fall behind

Lol, so you think all those guys who keep themselves in action for days without sleep do so unassisted? It's one of the darker sides to pool. Pool has its drugs.

LOL...If any kind of drug testing was required in pool the size of the field would shrink pretty dramatically!

(-:

But STILL, as I have said so often, the sport of pool should impose upon its players and fans, the same standards of sportsmanship, cordiality and decorum as those required by the International Lawn Croquet Association.

Those thugs who play pro football only get 15 yards for trying to put a $10 million quarterback in traction for six weeks. But any such infraction in pool should result AT LEAST in ball-in-hand for the opponent.

And if a fan ever again tosses a pacifier into the playing area he should be required to take off his stupid little hat and have his little noise maker horn confiscated...for AT LEAST one rack!

Ya think?

I was hanging out with a couple of guys recently who are known pro's. I asked if they had heard about the new pro tour coming up? They said no. I told them what little I knew which included the part about drug testing. They both laughed out loud and one of them said..... WHO'S GONNA PLAY! THEY WON'T HAVE MANY PLAYERS!! lol

We will see. This might force some of them to clean up there act.

Clean up their act? It may or may not but I'm not banking on it. These are tough habits to crack. I think this tour is going to have to rely on Shane and the other already clean players, at least for the first few years. But hopefully it'll be better than I predict.

... but it does have its fair share of substance abuse. :(

<edit> Should have read the whole thread before posting, somebody said this already.

Imo...The drugs and suppliments of today, from Steriods down to Gatorade, are the main reason that today's athletes are so much better than yesterdays....

There also some less sinister influences, namely nutrition and generally more healthy conditions growing up. Not to mention better training methods and for that matter training at all. Just think of Babe Ruth's training regime, lol. In all sports most athletes were part-time athletes holding down another job as well, now they just train.
Admittedly, steroids and such bring them 1 or 2 steps higher than they would have been, but today's athletes would be superior to yesterday's regardless. Yesterday's athletes built the foundation and today's athletes have the foundation to stand on.

Agreed but the ban should be for the entire tournament.

Yesterdays athletes with todays nutrition and modern sports science would terrorize today's professional athlete...Simply because they had more heart....
I think it this because they actually earned the money they made...today's professional athlete are wayyyy to overpaid.
Except poolplayers...This is why i enjoy the game. You have to work very hard on every shot to be able to make a little bit of money. There is no room form error in this game....therefore i consider it the most difficult to dominate week after week....

Maybe, but you can't give them mordern nutrition and mordern sports science without giving them mordern attitudes (and therefore "heart"). It is all a package.
Besides, I'm not sure I buy the proposition that yesterday's athletes had more "heart". We tend to romanticize the past, the Chicago White Soxs certainly seemed to demonstrate a lack of "heart" during the infamous "black soxs scandle".

agreed...heck, a buncha the guys I played baseball with would speed up before a game. Just a bit quicker reaction time. If we woulda had all the stuff available today - anything for a little edge. Steriods back then were only for the guys who wanted to get HUGE, now you can get just as big as back then without losing quickness and speed....BIGGER STRONGER FASTER!!!

Well as I see it. Steroids are for body performace boost.

Pool won't have a problem with the actual Steroids since it really is not beneficial (other than perhaps the break)....but looking like Barry Bonds probably won't lead you to a stroke like Earl or Efren

However....There are drugs being used to enhance performace and longevity of "awakeness" .....

To me those drugs are basically no different than Steroids...They are just Steroids for "The Brain"

There are side effects from both....Steroids gets you a small pecker and eveuntually a heart attack....."Pool Steroids" eventually turn you into Jim Ignatowski.......(Permafried)
