Shane lost!!!

awesome match

Just got back home from LV . The last two matchs were great .Alex and Buste having fun was really enjoyable .Plus just great play .Shane put Alex in the losser bracket 11 - 4 i think .Shanes break was working just wasnt getting a good shot after it .He stoped the rock but the one was going up table and the 9 just didnt move .Stayed where it was racked .Sardo ??? Shane played safes that were great .But Alex kicks so well .Shane jumps better than Archer IMO? He got out of line on the 8 .The cue the 9 the 8 in line of sorts all with in a foot apart and a foot from the corner .Sane gets it up and down to make the 8 and drew it back to shot the 9 in the other corner.WOW. JUmps 2 ball to make the 1 and shape on the 2 .He was down 5-2 at one time and lose 7-5 not bad for the rookie .This kid is a killer . AND he beat Jesse B on a bar box 8 ball for a dime 13-9. If the race with Alex would have been longer or the break would have worked better he would have won i think. I talked to him after the match and he said that he would like these kind of matchs to be a race to 5 ,2 out of 3 he would be happy with that. Why not record both races to 7 if needed and air the last set ,Everyone else had to be beat twice .Alex wins the first one play the second and show hilite of the first in he dont then your done or do the long and edit . But this was some of the best 9 ball ive seen !

Hard to shoot from the floor

When they were 5-5. Shane flew cue off the table. That was big, Alex just took full advantage and 3 fouled him. At that level you can not lose the cue like that.:o Opps!
I agree a single set in the finals sucks.:( I mean it's like TV girly:D pool.:D
Sorry Ladies.:D

Hey Shane, Good tournament. Great run your having. Keep it up!:) :)

I couldn't agree more! For the finals in a big tournament, a single race to 7 is ridiculous. Why don't they just flip a coin? That way there'd be more time for commercials... The TV network could easily edit down, say, a race to 11; then show the final 5-6 racks if it was close.

Still, since we got pool on TV, I suppose everyone is happy, except for Shane, his fans, and pool fans who have been following the tournament from the beginning.

First off, Congratulations to Alex and "The American Kryptonite" Shane VB.

Secondly, a few thoughts and suggestions about the TV coverage and its effect on the sport (afficionado complaints). Please don't take offense as these are from experience and am hoping that the US Prmoters pick-up something and modify to need/situation.

Since major cable sports networks are preferred by most US viewers (champagne taste), then maybe, some compromises should be deviced. On-site TV crew, equipment and finally airtime cost mega-bucks when dealing with major networks. These expenses may be a little to much for Pool event Promoters (beer budget) without the help from major sponsors.
How that was overcome here in the Philippines is for the Promoter to rent an outsde Production Crew and equipment. Edit and submit in network's specs. In that way you(pool afficionados and players) can all enjoy the preferred tournament finals format. I don't know if the network there will agree to such but that was one of the solutions during the dawn of pool TV coverage here.

Nowadays, pool coverage here is aired live as it's the only way to get premium sponsors to ante up their advertising bucks.

The quality of play from the upcoming US players is very promising and hopefully the US Pool Community will back them 100% in talk and 110% in deed from this point on(Ed sez<<they just need a little more boost from you all). Please do so as we too are working from our end to uplift the sport worldwide. We have a lot of events lined up and one of them will be "The Philippines vs the Rest of the World". Surely, other countries will follow.

Your suggestions seem real good to me, although I'm not privy to the industry parameters.

I realize your intent was to be complimentary, but having been around during the 50's-80's when U.S. players dominated pool, it is a little haunting to contemplate that we now have some U.S. players who are "promising".

They "dominated" because there wasn't any body to challenge them...

The balance of power shifted when Amang Parica immigrated to the US. He "worked/played" under the radar for a long time that most of these "dominant" players were robbed and they didn't know it.

And when Efren and company invaded the country it was all over but the shouting. Your so-called "dominance" is just a distant memory now......

That is pretty much true at the highest level, but I believe that new American players will rise to the challenge in the coming years, and our Parica is called Shane Van Boening, the first of others to follow. But, I do agree with you, it used to be 1 or 2 Filapinos against the American Players, and now at the top, it is 1 or 2 Americans against the Filapino Puyat group, but I think both of us will benefit in the long run and be better for the sport.

Me neither as every country's industry, in this case entertainment and to be specific-televised entertainment, have different standards.

Maybe that's what happened, the USA slowly lost its dominance but failed to realized it or accept that it happened/ing. Thus the support from the US Pool Community didn't come in time at the right degree. You guys were caught with your pants down and were just watching them like they were just performing circus clowns. In actuallity, it was an invasion and as such they raped the populace and came wave after wave. Well. I see that the door to dominance or at least staying at par with had been cracked open by the current breed and they really need help pushing it to stay open.

Edwin<<<do I hear a uniting battlecry for good ol' US of A?

Well, you can crack wise if you want. I for one am happy that your country has found something it can be proud of.

i dont care who is from where, i just want to see quality play, good TV(which isnt happining) and more $$$ in pool, it dosent matter where someone is from-if they can break and run 8 racks and get the $$$ its all good. This would get more people interested in pool.

having said that Shane will be the guy to beat in a few years, dont worry about that.

I really do not get why they have to shorten the race for TV??...couldn't they just edit it down later? Just seems silly for guys of this level.

Despite Shane's loss, what really is amazing is his consistency! To make the finals of 3 major events in a row is just crazy good and he is still just a youngin!

I totally agree!! Why can't they just edit and do a normal race....why doesn't the guy on the winner's side get anything?? Just doesn't seem right!!
